Strange things can start to happen when beloved characters pass into the public domain, and the upcoming horror movie Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey is sure to prove that.
The movie – which is obviously not Disney related in any way – turns the anthropomorphic yellow teddy bear into a monstrous killer. How is this allowed, you ask? Well, the classic story entered the public domain earlier this year, which means anyone and everyone is now free to do whatever they want with Pooh.
Rhys Frake-Waterfield directed Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey, and several early images suggest a dark and twisted vision. No plot details are available at the moment, but it appears the film focuses on a killer wearing a Winnie the Pooh mask. Or maybe it really is a werebear hybrid.
A twisted version of Piglet also appears in these early images, so expect a complete perversion of the classic tale. This one comes courtesy of Jagged Edge Productions, released later this year. The upcoming film’s IMDb page only notes that it is a “horror retelling of the famous Winnie the Pooh legend”. Amber Doig-Thorne, Maria Taylor and Danielle Scott star in the horror film.
