Analyze, choose, award works and artists of pop culture. This is the job of the CCXP Awards Technical Jury, which, on July 15th, will present and celebrate the best of national culture. And like all major awards gala, the journey of each work and artist begins with the registration and passes through the hands of the judges and the popular vote.
Currently, the works and content submitted, in 32 subcategories, are being analyzed by the Committee of Experts – a jury composed of artists, producers, developers, gamers, creators, journalists and several other players that are part of the entertainment industry in the country. On the 9th, the Committee members will finalize the voting on the works that they know and submit, which will result in the formation of a Short List composed of up to 10 works chosen for each subcategory.
Subsequently, on June 14th, the votes of the Technical Jury will begin, and the popular vote will be opened to elect the Finalists within each subcategory. Thus, the list will be reduced to the number of up to five best participants. This stage starts on the 1st and ends on the 6th of July.
The CCXP Awards presents a Technical Jury in three categories: Comics, Films and Literature. Next week, the names of the members in Series, Content Creators and Games & eSports will be presented.
COMICS
The Technical Jury is led by presidents Mariana Viana and Pedro Ferreira, from @foradoplastico. The duo invited five judges who will select and vote for the best works entered in the subcategories: Comics of the Year, Comics of the Year, Album, Strip and Web-strip, Scriptwriter, Designer, Artwork and Colorist. The first name to compose the Technical Jury isAfonso Andrade. He is a historian and cultural manager at the Minas Gerais State Public Library. Afonso carries the experience of having been coordinator of the International Comics Festival (FIQ) until 2020. Continuing,Dandara Palankof, journalist and co-editor of Plaf magazine. She has been working in the translation of comics since 2015 and has already been a judge for the Grampo and HQMix awards.
Winner of the 2019 HQMix Trophy in the categories Best Theoretical Book and Best Mix with the production Mulheres & Quadrinhos, Laluña Machado, carries the title of being the greatest academic specialist in Batman in Brazil. She is currently a member of the USP Contemporary Cultural Practices Research Group and the USP Comic Book Observatory.
Owner of Itiban Comic Shop,Mitie Taketaniis from São Paulo, but has lived in Curitiba for over 30 years. It was there that she created the bookstore specializing in comics that is a reference in Brazil. In addition to being the curator, Mitie has already organized hundreds of launches and chats with artists at Itiban, with names such as Laerte, Marcello Quintanilha, Luiz Gê and Lourenço Mutarelli. AlreadySamir Naliatois editor of the Social Comic platform and founder of the website Universo HQ.
FILMS
With Marina Person as category president, she formed a first-star team to choose and vote in four national sub-categories (Best Film, Best Director, Actor and Actress), plus a global one (Best Film of the Year). The first name is the black queer screenwriter and director,Gautier Lee. She is co-founder of the collective Macumba Lab and has been awarded five times at the Gramado Festival and won the Cabíria award.Julian Gomesis the second name on the list and works as co-editor of Revista Cinética and is a critical member of Abraccine.
Creator of the character Blogueirinha do Fim do Mundo,Maria Boppis an actress and graduated in audiovisual. She has worked as a continuationist in several Brazilian productions and was the protagonist of the series ‘Me Chama de Bruna’ and ‘As Seguidoras’. The fourth name presented by CCXP isCaio Horowicz. Actor, the 26-year-old was awarded Best Supporting Actor for the film ‘California’ at the Rio Film Festival. Among his works are the films ‘Mouth of Mouth’, ‘LOV3’ and ‘Hebe’.
Closing the list of the MOVIES category,Dione Charles. Playwright, screenwriter, actress and curator, she has twenty-five plays staged in Brazil and in countries such as Portugal, England, USA, Mexico, Germany, Belgium and Colombia. Owner of six published books, in 2019, she represented Brazil on the International Day of the Portuguese Language in Greece, in Athens, where she spoke at the Acropolis Museum. She is currently a screenwriter for Rede Globo, where she develops series and soap operas.
LITERATURE
Daniel Lameira, creative director and co-founder of Editora Antofágica presents his team of judges for the best national works in the subcategories Best Fiction and Best Non-Fiction.
For the works in Best Fiction, the Jury will have the writers and sisters Pétala Tainá and Isabella Raíssa, who are content producers atAfrofuturasand specialists in speculative fiction, decolonity and representation in literature. Following we have the name ofCamila Von Holdeferliterary critic and translator with publications in the main press vehicles.
Creator of the series ‘Vaga-lume’ and ‘Para Gostor de Ler’, by Ática,Jiro Takahashiis an editor and professor with stints at other publishers such as Nova Fronteira and Rocco. the next name isAnne Quiangala, creator of Preta, Nerd & Burning Hell. She confesses to being one of the few fans of the Birds of Prey series, says she only has DC items, but assumes she’s a marvete.
In voting for the Best Nonfiction subcategory, the table composition starts withSemayat Oliveira,journalist graduated from the Methodist University of São Paulo and specialist in Culture, Education and Ethnic-Racial Relations from USP. She is co-founder of the journalistic website ‘We, women from the periphery’ and also works as a writer, having participated in the book “Heroínas da História”, published in 2019 by the Vladimir Herzog Institute. Another journalist on the Jury list isPablo Miyazawa. Specializing in pop culture, he has edited publications such as Rolling Stone, IGN Brasil, Herói, AdoroCinema, EGM Brasil and Nintendo World.
Closing the list we have Stephanie Borges e Gaia Passarelli. The first is a writer and translator, having received the IV Cepe National Literature Prize for her book ‘Perhaps we need a name for this’. Finally, Gaía is the author of the book ‘Mas Você Vai Sozinha?’, released by Editora Globo in 2016.
