With the visual identity created in partnership with Gray Brasil, the institution wants to reduce ethnic and social inequality
Universidade Zumbi dos Palmares presented its new rebranding, in which it announces that the institution’s mission is to cease to exist.
With its visual identity renewed and conceived in partnership with Gray Brasil, the University declared that its mission comes from a desire to, one day, reduce to zero the ethnic and social inequality caused by centuries of racism and guarantee a world with the same opportunities and salary ranges for whites, browns, Indians and blacks.
“Zumbi’s rebranding is an important milestone to show the world, in a renewed way, how the institution is a place of life, which welcomes those who do not have access to education and employment, in an environment that cultivates and promotes black culture,” he said. Gustavo Dornelles, from Gray Brasil.
In addition to reinforcing the mission in the fight against racism, the rebranding intends to feed the feeling of black identity among students and the institution itself, inviting the artist Criola to develop a visual identity inspired by patterns of African tribes.
“For us, the only path that equals everyone is knowledge. It is plural, diverse, democratic, inclusive and liberating education. Without education there is no freedom. We change to focus, renew, expand and start all over again. Now with new and different colors, different targets, multiple shapes and redoubled energy”, reinforced Dr. José Vicente, Dean and General and Academic Director of the Faculty.
Gray also had the consultancy of professor and anthropologist Edilene Machado, who provided the basis for the materials produced according to the origin of the patterns and their meanings for African tribes.
“The pattern is an element that is repeated in an unlimited way, it is an image that we can use in many ways. It adds interest to the design, an identity, rescues the origins of students and employees, mostly black, and touches their ancestral memory , recalling the importance of these colors, legacies of our African ancestors in countries such as Egypt, Ghana, North Sudan, etc.”, Edilene explained.
In addition to being the new face of Zumbi on social media, the new visual identity of the college will become a series of lambe-lambes spread across the college corridors, also stamping school and office materials used on campus.
