Pride Month brings visibility to the inequalities the LGBTQ+ community continually fights for, and especially for this season, Vans has teamed up with incredible talent to share the creative voices that influence change and encourage societal acceptance with the world.
Celebrating love in all its forms, this season’s OTW Gallery collection features the art of Italian photographer Sara Lorusso in the Classic Slip-On. Covered in names, prints of kisses from friends and the message “LOVE CAN SAVE US”, translated into Portuguese to “O AMOR PODE SALVAR” written on the rubber side hem, the laceless silhouette is finished off by a photograph of Lorusso on one of the insoles. and on both soles of the Slip-On.
Vans’ first ever sneaker, the Authentic™, comes to life through two elevated and detailed executions featuring Hong Kong artist Kaitlin Chan and Los Angeles-based Ashley Lukashevsky.
Chan’s authentic design carries the words “Chosen Family”, a phrase used in the LGBTQ+ community referring to the family one chooses as a support network. She also incorporates traditional Eastern imagery and design elements as a support to the queer Chinese community that has embraced her since she came out. Lukashevsky’s design uses a mix of prints and embroidery techniques in a monochromatic upper that illustrates sexuality and cultural identity.
The collection is completed by clothing and accessories, such as an elaborate Drill Chore Coat and a cap customized by Chan. The T-shirts incorporate artwork and photography by Lorusso and Lukashevsky, with inspirational messages like “Angels Have No Gender” and “Love Can Save Us,” translated into Portuguese for “Angels Have No Gender” and “Love Can Save Us.” Lukashevsky’s art also signs the Pride OTW Gallery Volley shorts in vibrant yellow.
The OTW Pride Gallery collection is available starting today, June 7th, at authorized retailers, at Vans Stores and on the website.
