Twitter is the place where different communities meet, being an important space for connection and representation. The platform is, according to an internal survey, a place where people can be themselves, according to 81% of the LGBTQIAP+ community present on the social network.
Among the subjects, series and movies stand out as the main interest. In a special survey for Pride Month, Twitter highlighted the series that have LGBTQIAP+ representation in their plot and were the most Tweeted this year in Brazil so far: Euphoria, Heartstopper, Grey’s Anatomy, Modern Family and Riverdale.
Euphoria (@euphoriaHBO) leads the Top 5, even being the most commented series in general in these first months of 2022. Starring the couple Rue, played by Zendaya (@Zendaya), and Jules, played by Hunter Schafer, the two seasons of Euphoria seek to represent the anguish of young people and generated many conversations on Twitter.
Heartstopper was the second most commented one in Brazil. The series, adapted from the comics by Alice Oseman (@AliceOseman), won the hearts of fans, with lots of love and affection between the couple of protagonists Nick and Charlie, played by Joe Locke (@joelocke03) and Kit Connor (@kit_connor). Another ‘ship’ that heated up fans on the network was between Tara and Darcy, played by Corinna Brown and Kizzy Edgell (@kizzy_edgell).
Grey’s Anatomy (@GreysABC) has also gained a lot of space on the social network, and appears as the third series that explores the most talked about LGBTQIAP+ theme. Season 7 couple Arizona and Callie made a name for themselves on TV by representing bisexuality and gay marriage. Finally, Modern Family (@ModernFam) and Riverdale (@CW_Riverdale) round out the Top 5.
