The championships aim to give visibility and celebrate community agendas throughout the year
Riot Games and Final Level Co., have entered into a partnership to produce League of Legends, VALORANT and League of Legends: Wild Rift championships dedicated to the LGBTQIA+ community throughout 2022, with the aim of making visible and celebrating the agendas and existence of the community beyond just the month of June.
The first League of Legends tournament takes place this month and registration is now open. The qualifying rounds for the tournament will be on June 18, with the quarter-finals scheduled for the 20th.
The companies expect around 60 teams to enter the competition, which will be broadcast live on the Riot Games channel on Twitch in the semifinals (23) and finals (24), in addition to coverage on the brand’s official channels.
“The month of June is a time for reflection, celebration and recognition of the advances we have made in respect for diversity in our scenario and beyond. But we are aware that it is a work that needs to go beyond the commemorative dates to achieve our commitment to make Riot Games games more welcoming for everyone”, said Priscila Queiroz, Senior Manager of the Riot Games Brand in Brazil.
The Final Level Co. is responsible for the co-creation and production of all tournaments and related activations, in addition to relying on its network of influencers for presentations and live broadcasts.
“Our strategic partnership with Riot Games has been growing and we are excited to support them in Brazil. Many of the names that produce content for our brand are widely recognized in the esports universe, so this ‘marriage’ between the two companies is an incredible path to a premier project that celebrates one of the largest active online communities in the world.” Fernanda Lobão, CEO and co-founder of Final Level Co.
For fans of VALORANT and League of Legends: Wild Rift, championships dedicated to the LGBTQIA+ community take place in September and December, respectively.
