The new YouTube exclusive series, O Som do Rioarrived at platform this Tuesday, the 14th, at 11:00 am. The production brings Val Munduruku, an indigenous activist, and Maria Gadú, an artist and socio-environmental activist, on a journey of knowledge and discovery along the Tapajós River, in Pará.
In four episodes directed by Carol Quintanilha, Maria Gadú invites personalities such as Thelma Assis (doctor, presenter and digital influencer), Vítor diCastro (actor and digital influencer) and Lenine (singer and songwriter) to disconnect from city life and embark on a journey of transformation, where real connection is all they will find.
In the first episode, accompanied by Val Munduruku, Gadú, Thelma and Vitor Di Castro meet the Suraras do Tapajós, indigenous women who present the urgent issues of the region to the guests, in addition to their culture and a night of surprises for the public. Meanwhile, to explain the impact this has on the lives of those far from the Amazon, YouTuber and presenter Felipe Castanhari uses all his didactics, presenting in a simple way some complex concepts related to climate change.
For Maria Gadú, “To bring people together on a river trip through the Amazon is to overflow Brazil beyond the boundaries of thought and knowledge. Being able to record the speeches and sounds of the river is to learn more and more about what the new era of the planet will be like: clean, alive, indigenous, multiple and colorful. A pleasure to be part of this team that, together with Youtube, believes in the power of the standing forest”
For YouTube, O Som do Rio is a project that highlights the platform’s efforts to connect people with urgent topics on the sustainability agenda, such as the preservation of the Amazon.
“This project is an example of how YouTube strives to fulfill its mission to amplify voices around the world, especially to foster debate on issues relevant to today’s society. Here in Brazil, we make constant efforts to value the culture and diversity of the national territory”, says Clarissa Orberg, Head of Education, Health and Children’s Entertainment Content Partnerships at YouTube. “Our team was very happy with the result of the series, which will bring visibility to places, people and initiatives that not only deserve, but are entitled to, space to show their identity and purpose. The YouTube community will be able, from anywhere and at any time, to watch the series and connect with the forest, as well as understand the real impacts of environmental issues that affect the Amazon today.” adds Orberg.
O Som do Rio is another project by Maria Farinha Filmes, a production company that has an essential commitment to stories that connect with the biggest global challenges, anchored in the goals for the sustainable development of the United Nations – SDG. Its more than 50 productions have already impacted millions of people and mobilized more than 100 social organizations around the world, accelerating the public and business agenda, inspiring changes in individual behavior and becoming the main tool of several civic movements: “Sound of Rio is a super project special for us. Creating this series alongside Estela Renner and Gadú was a fantastic journey through the infinite sounds of the forest. We are very proud of the result and we look forward to sharing it with the public”, says Marcos Nisti, founding partner of Maria Farinha Filmes.
In addition to the visibility that the series aims to bring to the region, YouTube is also making a contribution of 230 thousand reais to the Amazon Entrepreneurship Center, to generate a local impact through sustainable economic development projects that help in the fight to stop environmental impacts in the region.
