Program in partnership with Instituto Vamo que Vamo expects to qualify 200 people in the next 12 months
Google for Startups Brasil announced the creation of a program that offers financial support to black people interested in starting a career in software development, in partnership with Instituto Vamo que Vamo.
The program aims to support the education of 200 low-income black developers and help them take their first steps in tech-related careers within the next 12 months.
The idea came up with the aim of helping to fill a market need for technology professionals and to offer specific opportunities for black people.
According to INEP data, about 40% of higher education students in the area of technology are white men and, in addition, within the percentage of black people studying in the area of science and technology, there are 3 times more men than women. .
“Our objective with this program is for these people to get a job even faster and with an above-average remuneration. Precisely to meet the racial and gender dimensions, our intention is to have a higher percentage of women participating in the program”, said André Barrence, Director of Google for Startups for Latin America.
The selection of participants will be made by Instituto Vamo que Vamo, a non-profit civil association that financially supports people to study at Trybe. In addition to the Google for Startups allowance, they will also have psychological support, specific preparation for participation in selection processes and additional training in Google technologies and products.
“We realized that, in addition to the difficulty of financial resources for training in technology courses, there is also a need for psychological support for people from minority groups who decide to continue in the profession, since this usually requires a high level of qualification and constant demand for updating, which generates anxiety when thinking about employability and family income. The initiative is aligned with a research that we are developing in partnership with the Brazilian Startups Association and Box1824”, added Barrence.
At the end of the course, the people supported will be connected with the network of more than 300 startups that have already gone through Google for Startups acceleration programs, to get a new job in their field.
“We are very happy and honored to partner with Google for Startups. This will be an important initiative to build an increasingly inclusive and diverse technological environment, contributing to our mission of generating opportunities in people’s lives”, said Mariana Lopes , director of Instituto Vamo que Vamo.
Interested persons must apply for the Trybe school selection process. Once approved, they will be able to apply for Google’s allowance with Instituto Vamo que Vamo. For more information, visit https://www.betrybe.com/parceria-google-vamoquevamo
