D&AD revealed this Monday (11) the winners of the New Blood Awards 2022, the organization’s annual awards program to recognize emerging creative talent and which offers the possibility to work on briefings developed by major global brands, such as BBC, Disney, Duolingo. , Google Fonts, Netflix, Penguin and Snapchat.
186 Pencils were delivered, including a Black Pencil, 27 Yellow, 46 Graphite, 108 Wood and 4 White Pencils for projects that use creativity to do good. The works are distributed in categories such as UX/UI, animation, advertising, typography and public relations. To participate, the creatives had to deal with briefings that posed both business challenges and social issues.
The project ‘Clout’ was the recipient of the highest honor, the Black Pencil, and also received 1 White and 1 Yellow Pencils. It was created to respond to the briefing of Do The Green Thing and Pentagram. As fast fashion’s harmful environmental impact becomes more acute, the School of Communication Arts 2.0’s Sam Pilkington-Miksa and Holly Killen’s solution gives people the means to extend the life of their clothing through upcycling. , by teaching you how to sew and mend your own clothes.
The other highlights of the awards with White Pencils were the “The Conscious Merch”, also in response to the “Do The Green Thing” briefing, with the creation of a new way of selling fashion that transforms any used clothing into merchandise, stamping it with ecological inks; O “Belong Here”, developed for Google Fonts & HMCT, who used typography to promote peace, dignity and universal human rights around the world, using Google’s Noto font as inspiration; and the work of Matthew La Croix of the School of Communication Arts in London, who identified an opportunity for Penguin to create safe spaces for the LGBTQ+ community in the metaversewith reading rooms dedicated to queer literature, as well as classic books.
