Developed by AlmapBBDO, the theme is ‘Let’s fight false information together’
WhatsApp starts this Monday (1) a campaign whose objective is to give more visibility to the partnerships established to combat fake news and increase access to information, in a practical and safe way, directly in the application.
With the theme ‘Let’s fight false information together’, the action was developed by AlmapBBDO, and the pieces will focus on the partnerships established by WhatsApp with fact-checking organizations and the virtual assistant created in conjunction with the Superior Electoral Court – TSE , which allows interactions to facilitate access to information and services from the Electoral Court.
The campaign will be shown on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, in addition to being broadcast in the main print newspapers and magazines, news portals, radio and out of home media during the electoral process.
After the experience in the 2020 municipal elections, WhatsApp reported that it has implemented improvements to continue ensuring the integrity of elections in Brazil. In cooperation with the TSE, the application brought innovations such as the possibility for users to register to automatically receive relevant information about the electoral process and checks for fake news.
The whistleblower channel was also renewed to report accounts suspected of carrying out mass shootings on WhatsApp, which is not allowed in the application’s Terms of Service or in electoral legislation since 2019. In 2020, of the total accounts banned in this initiative, more than 64 % were proactively and automatically blocked by the WhatsApp integrity system, even before being reported.
The app also said that contact with regional electoral authorities was expanded in order to increase the reach of reliable information and connect more people to the Electoral Court. Alliances have already been established with the TREs of Bahia, Paraba, Paran and Tocantins, and more partnerships should be launched during the electoral period.
