I don’t see a good part of the national films that premiere in cinema and on streaming. After all, the Blog is from Hollywood! But occasionally I see some. one of them was The Speaker, which opens in theaters this Thursday. The production was filmed in 2018, and with the pandemic, it ends up arriving only now. But the weather didn’t hurt him. The movie is a romantic comedy that is sure to make everyone have fun. I fully boarded.
Guilherme (Fábio Porchat) is an accountant with no prospects who has just been fired and abandoned by his fiancee. That’s when he has to travel to Rio de Janeiro in order to resolve pending issues at the company that fired him. Without finding a direction in life, he decides to switch places with someone else. In an impulse of someone who has nothing to lose, he takes the place of this Marcelo. What he doesn’t know is that he’s a motivational speaker hired to cheer up the employees at Denise’s (Dani Calabresa) company. Guilherme has to put everyone up, but maybe he also needs this new Marcelo to change his life. And in taking his place, he will try to find his own reason to live.
What did I think of The Speaker?
It should be noted, of course, that the film is nothing special. But in its simplicity it amuses and entertains. It’s much more than most of the movies we see these days. Fabio Porchat, in addition to being the main actor, is also a screenwriter, along with Cláudia Jouvin. The focus of the jokes is obviously this speaker’s life. Those catchphrases, the silly games – well, everyone who’s ever participated in such a “motivational” thing knows how ridiculous it can be, lol (now I’m going to get canceled because I said that, lol).
just that The Speaker does not offend anyone. It shows how everyone wants to change their life a little bit. Guilherme wants to do different things, Denise wants people to like her. Not to mention the trio of employees made by Miá mello, Otávio Muller (great) and Paulo Vieira. But who really steals the show is Antonio Tebet as the ogre driver. He has the best jokes, and from the moment he joins Maria Clara Gueiros, things get even more fun. Even with the climax in the third act, when all the conflicts unfold.
Fabio Porchat is always a charismatic and fun figure. He works very well as Guilherme. I know little about Dani Calabresa’s career, but here she tries something different, without being especially funny. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. But the truth is that in the end, The Speaker it’s such a nice comedy, you won’t even pay much attention to a little mistake here, another there. Just let it roll and have fun.
