Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced new privacy-enhancing features for the company’s remote messaging app WhatsApp. According to the information released, the updates will start to be available later this month, with a global campaign that will start in the UK.
Among the new features is the ability to silently leave a WhatsApp group. In the current system, when users leave friend groups, a notification is sent in chat so that everyone present knows the departure. With the new feature, it will be possible to leave discreetly, without the other members knowing immediately, with the exception of the administrators.
Another important feature about the privacy of users that will be added will be related to the “online” status present in the application. You’ll be able to choose who you want to know about when you’re online and when you’re not, just like the “last seen” option, which determines when the user accessed the app.
It is worth mentioning that child safety was not left out of the new updates, but this time related to another Meta app, Snapchat. The company launched a Family Center, with security measures and restrictions so that parents are less worried about what their children have been consuming on the app.
