In the year 2023, Band will be responsible for broadcasting the Ultimate Fighting Championship, the UFC, to the Brazilian public that follows the sport. The announcement was made last Wednesday, August 10th, and it was revealed that the station will have rights to broadcast up to 12 live events.
Until then, Globo was broadcasting UFC fights on open television. However, the broadcaster ended up losing the rights after not renewing the contract with the brand, which comes to an end after this year. Combat, Globo’s per-pay-view channel, will also lose its rights to the UFC.
It is also worth mentioning that the change of house for the Band is not the only difference for the UFC in Brazil in 2023. The organization also closed an agreement for an event to take place on January 21 next year. Named “UFC 283”, the event will be the first in Brazilian territory after almost three years and will take place at the Jeunesse Arena, in Rio de Janeiro.
More information about the UFC’s arrival on the Band screen should be released soon.
