Some of the audience’s favorite superheroes will arrive a little later than expected in movie theaters. Shazam: Wrath of the Gods and Aquaman and the Lost Realm are being postponed as part of a larger shift to Warner Bros.’s theatrical calendar, reports international magazine Variety.
The sequel to Shazam was scheduled to release this Christmas on December 21, with Aquaman arriving on March 17, 2023. Now, Shazam will debut in Aquaman’s place on March 17. Aquaman will be released on December 25, 2023.
Also announced as part of the shuffle, an “untitled WB event movie” will be released on February 10, 2023. Evil Dead Rise will be released on April 4 and The Nun 2 on September 8. Salem’s Lot, based on Stephen King’s 1975 novel, was scheduled to be released on April 21, but will now be released on an unannounced date sometime in 2023.
On the other hand, as Variety notes, Evil Dead Rise and House Party were originally going to be released on HBO Max. However, as part of Warner Bros. Discovery, both will be shown exclusively in theaters.
Warner Bros. Discovery has been a recurring name in this type of news for the last month. the CEO David Zaslav says it has a ten-year plan for Warner Bros., something that supposedly started with the surprise cancellation of the near-finished Batgirl.
Meanwhile, the ongoing legal problems of Ezra Miller raised questions about the future of The Flash among fans, but Zaslav only had positive words to say about the film during a recent company conference call, and no moves were announced for the film.
