In musical shows, for example, 72% of respondents said that today they prefer face-to-face experience
A little over two years after the beginning of the pandemic, Brazilians’ interest in participating in face-to-face cultural events has increased compared to online initiatives. The data are from the ‘Cultural Habits III’ survey, carried out by Ita Cultural/Datafolha.
The new reality was seen in all areas of entertainment, such as musical shows, circus shows, theater and dance, children’s cultural activities, seminars, as well as art classes and workshops.
In music shows, for example, 72% of respondents said that today they give preference to in-person experience – in 2021, the rate was 62%. And the percentage of those opting for online has dropped from 32% in last year’s survey to 19%.
Among the reasons, 30% of respondents reported a preference for face-to-face services for the opportunity to have contact with other people – in 2021, this motivation was 37%.
There is also the prospect of greater credibility of face-to-face presentations, which appears in second place with 16% in the sample. Subsequent motivations are greater emotion (13%, the same percentage as in 2021), holding more attention (12% compared to 8% in 2021) and getting out of the computer (7% now compared to 10% in 2021).
Those who choose online, on the other hand, have convenience and flexibility among the main reasons, which appear with 27% of the mentions. Location to avoid travel (16%), desire to avoid crowds and not put health at risk (12% now and 9% in the previous edition) and the practicality of watching at home (10% now against 5% in 2021) emerge in sequence. The survey interviewed 2,240 individuals aged 16 to 65 years in all regions of the country.
less activities
The survey also records that 62% of individuals reduced the frequency of cultural and leisure activities in relation to the pre-pandemic period. Another 26% maintained their levels and only 12% increased their activities.
Cinema was the most impacted area, with only 26% of respondents having gone in the last 12 months. In the 2021 survey, 59% reported having attended rooms before the pandemic. At the other end, podcasts have grown and are now part of the routine of 42% of participants.
