On the eve of 2020, WhatsApp reached with historical numbers. For example, 100 billion messages were sent in the app, more than on any other day in the 10-year history of the tool. These numbers, however, do not stop there: in that same year, 1.4 billion video and voice calls were made.
Proof that WhatsApp also connects people in special moments, the app launched its New Year 2022 campaign, whose motto is “It’s not New Year until you get the message you’ve been waiting for”.
Directed by Niclas Larsson and filmed by cinematographer Oscar Linus Sandgren, the film shows that the New Year doesn’t officially start at midnight, but when you get that special message of celebration you’ve been waiting for.
The campaign is global, but it also brings videos that contextualize with some countries, such as the United Kingdom, Nigeria and Brazil (check the films below).
“New Year’s Eve is one of the few global moments that really brings people together, so it was great to combine that with the universal perception that, on a personal level, celebration doesn’t really happen until you hear from the people you know. and loves it, and that most of the time these people can only get in touch with you at that time through WhatsApp”, said Tres Colacion, global Creative lead at BBDO, who developed the action alongside Meta’s marketing team.
