The music world is dynamic and in the digital age it is intense. At the same time that new hits are released every day, old pearls are re-signified, revived and resized. After half a century of the release of the renowned album “Enough Crying” – that revolutionized the Brazilian music scene, conquered thousands of fans and influenced a generation of artists -, the work continues to set trends in the music industry to this day, reaffirming itself as a classic for fans and new listeners alike. Som Livre continues to celebrate the 50th anniversary of one of the biggest and most important albums in Brazilian music with special digital actions through the campaign (Re)Discover.
The initiatives include the release of a remix album signed by the hitmaker Ruxell, exclusively on Apple Music, and a lyric video of the track “Mistério do Planeta”, directed by the illustrator and designer Bruno Tavaresfor YouTube.
Released in 1972 by Som Livre in physical format, in LP (long play), and made available on streaming in 2013, the album “Acabou Chorare” has more than 100 thousand copies of the original product sold and accounts for around 130 million plays on audio platforms (considering the sum of Spotify, Deezer, Apple and Amazon Music).
According to a recent study of data consumption from the Som Livre catalogue, the record showed a 35% growth in plays from 2019 to 2020 and totaled more than 60 million plays between January 2020 and September 2022 – proving the rescue of “Acabou Chorare” by the public since the beginning of the pandemic. More than two years later, even with the return of the schedule of in-person shows and other commitments in the population’s routine, the behavior observed in streaming remains strong. “Acabou Chorare” has a monthly consumption of around 1.6 million streams in 2022, keeping its listeners active.
Since 2020, brought on by the beginning of the pandemic, a new behavioral movement has been observed, in which people plunged into nostalgic moments by rescuing old songs in order to find a little familiarity and sound comfort in the spare time they gained inside their homes, in addition to from a curiosity to understand what people heard when life was simpler and routine less accelerated.
According to data from Som Livre in streaming, the consumption of the back catalog – which comprises products with launches for more than 42 months – grew about 26% in 2020 and maintains its growth around 30% in 2022. From the study of these data , Som Livre created the (Re)Discover campaign, with investments in marketing, media and digital actions for selected products from the catalog that stand out in terms of consumption. The objective is to celebrate with the consumer public these classics of Brazilian music, from different musical genres, and to invite new audiences to (re) discover these products.
Starting the campaign celebrating the milestone of “Acabou Chorare”, Som Livre launches in an exclusive partnership with the Apple Music an album of remixes of the iconic album by the hands of one of the greatest music producers today, the beatmaker Ruxell. Collecting musical productions for big names in current pop such as Anitta, Ludmilla, Gloria Groove, Pabllo Vittar, IZA and Lexa, the music producer also has a solo career as an artist for Inbraza, Som Livre’s label, releasing his own songs. The tracks “Acabou Chorare”, including ‘Swing de Campo Grande’, ‘Mistério do Planeta’ and ‘Preta Pretinha’, gained new sound arrangements in the platform’s pioneering format, DJ Mixes, bringing a freshness to the songs, but without lose its original essence – listen here.
On the official channel of Som Livre on YouTube, “Acabou Chorare” will be celebrated with a lyric videounprecedented, directed by illustrator and designer Bruno Tavares. The track “Mistério do Planeta”, one of the most heard on the album on streaming, gains art with special refinement and playful elements, illustrating the members of Novos Baianos in harmony with the concept of the composition, which brings in the chorus excerpts such as: “I’m showing how I am / And I’m being as I can / Throwing my body into the world / Walking everywhere / And by the natural law of encounters / I leave and receive a little / And I pass it on to the naked eyes / Or dressed in spectacles/Past, present / I participate being the mystery of the planet“
