In the month of September, the month of urban mobility is celebrated in São Paulo, where the 17th edition of the “LATIN AMERICAN ELECTRIC VEHICLE 2022” took place. The event brings news for the sector, from light to heavy vehicles, as well as services and components for electric mobility. Along with the event, there was the “C-MOVE”, a congress on electric mobility that brought together more than 130 experts in the area with 30 presentations to discuss public policies, technologies and trends on hybrid and electric mobility in Brazil and in the world.
Ricardo Guggisberg, president of MES Eventos, organizer of the event, explains that we had a wide range of solutions related to electro-mobility, from very light vehicles such as electric scooters to heavy vehicles such as electric urban transport buses.
The current mayor of São Paulo, “Ricardo Nunes”, attended the event and saw up close a 100% electric bus that, according to him, will be one of the models chosen to be used in São Paulo. He also informed that the city hall has a goal to exchange 20% of the entire fleet in the city of São Paulo for electric buses by 2024, noting that the current fleet has about 13,000 buses.
The fair featured many new features, in addition to presentations of 100% electric vehicles, as could not be missed, we had several innovations in the sector such as:
– Schools with training focused on electro-mobility to prepare professionals for this future sector that is growing more and more.
– Charging stations capable of refueling electric vehicles in up to 35 minutes with energy from a renewable and certified source.
– Fast and ultra-fast chargers, capable of refueling an electric car in about 15 minutes.
– Companies that sell carbon credit certificates or that manage car-sharing systems.
In addition to electric mobility solutions, we had an exhibition of digital artworks, created by artificial intelligence with the theme electric vehicles. In total, 10 pieces were exhibited.
The challenges of lightweight electrics
It was an event that brought together the entire electro-mobility sector, and I myself participated in a panel on lightweight electric vehicles, that is, vehicles weighing up to 500Kg such as electric scooters, electric scooters, electric bicycles, electric skateboards, among others.
In this panel, we discussed the challenges of very light in logistics, because despite being one of the modes that is growing worldwide, it needs greater investment by the public authorities, such as the creation of cycle lanes for these types of vehicles, in addition to regulation of use in cities.
We currently do not have a definition or specific legislation that favors this type of transport, it is worth remembering that it would not only help the logistics sector, but also private users. Currently, short stretches such as going from work to a doctor’s appointment that ends up being too long to walk, but short for a car; the solution can be found in the use of an electric scooter, for example.
Another problem discussed was the issue of the relief of some cities that disfavor the use of this type of vehicle, but that can be overcome by integrating other means, such as public transport, in some parts of unfavorable terrain, which optimizes the travel time.
A company that has been growing in the micro mobility segment is Mobye, which thinks of a Smart City having mobility as a culture, offering solutions for various sectors and different user profiles.
For corporate users looking to enter sustainability through green micro mobility, Mobye offers electric solutions from scooters and bikes to electric cars. The company offers the complete solution with everything included, maintenance, equipment replacement and training on how to use the equipment safely.
Another sector that has been demanding this type of mobility is that of residential or commercial condominiums, where it is essential to have a quick transport alternative between buildings, houses or establishments. A condominium, in many cases, resembles a microcity, where a green solution for internal transport can be adopted.
And last but not least, the events sector, which has returned with great force after the pandemic, from a wedding party to a large event pavilion, scooter rental, for example, can be a practical and quick solution. of transport, in addition to an extra charm with equipment customized with the theme of the event.
We still have many challenges in Latin America for the implementation of electric mobility in general, however, I have been following this sector closely for some time, I have seen the exponential growth of companies and people increasingly seeking these solutions, due to the sustainability that is the key to a better future.
Although it seems that we are in its infancy when compared to European countries, it is worth remembering that our country has continental dimensions, which can make it difficult to implement quickly in a homogeneous way, but in large centers, such as São Paulo, electric mobility is already becoming a reality.
Many studies indicate that Brazilians like to experiment with new technologies, in addition to being a people who care about the environment and always look for sustainable options; there is a lack of greater focus on the part of our representatives and government officials to encourage this new trend, or rather, this new reality that is electric mobility. Brazil has everything it takes to become a sustainable example of mobility in the world.
I, whenever I can, go on a scooter, and what do you go for?
