Game of Thrones it has always been one of the best things I’ve seen on television (perhaps the best). So it is obvious that I was very curious to watch its derivative, The Dragon House. The action covers the history of the Targaryens – and it takes place 200 years before Daenerys tries to reclaim the Iron Throne, as we saw in GOT. the good of The Dragon’s House is that it is not necessary tSee the parent series to understand the story. But, of course, if you’ve seen it, you’ll recognize the various names. And still understand a little more of everything that happened later (but that we saw before, lol). This Sunday, the last episode of the first season arrived on HBO and HBO Max. And this one leaves the door wide open for a second one, which has already been approved.
For those who haven’t watched it, the narrative is based on the book Fire & Blood by George RR Martin. It all begins with the story of King Viserys, who without an heir, announces that his daughter Rhaenyra will assume the throne after her death. But there are all the backstage situations, the quest for power, which become even stronger after the remarriage of the king, who ends up having two sons. And that will provoke a feud between the half-brothers Aegon II and Rhaenyra. As depicted in Game of Thrones, back in the days when the Targaryen family ruled the 7 Kingdoms, the house was known for its towering dragons. And that, like the family, ended up practically extinct after this internal conflict that we only started to see in this first season.
What did I find?
The show’s visuals are sensational – and that includes the dragons, which were also featured in GOT. Of course, there are also the same little problems with GOT also. There are times when some scenes are so dark, it’s impossible to see what’s going on, lol. But, it is fascinating to see clearly in the script, the pettiness, the desperation for power, and that end up with families and friendships.
The Dragon’s House takes place in two moments, which even makes some members of the cast change in the middle of the way. This includes the two main characters, Rhaenyra and Alicent (I talk about the actresses – great – here). And the highlights end up being with two well-known figures. Matt Smith, who was once Doctor Who and Prince Phillip, makes Daemon Targaryen a fascinating character. And, of course, the excellent Paddy Considine, who makes King Viserys an unforgettable character. The scene in which, weakened, he ascends the throne, is simply sensational.
The series has moments that have become classics there. And it still leaves us waiting anxiously to find out what Rhaenyra will do to regain the Iron Throne. I can’t wait – too bad it’s going to take a long time – there’s still no date announced.
