Previously referred to by the codename “Canis Majoris” during the studio’s Strategy Update in early October, the remake will be a modern reimagining of The Witcher 2007 – the first game in CD PROJEKT RED’s acclaimed RPG trilogy. The title will be rebuilt from the ground up using Unreal Engine 5 technology and will use the toolset that CDPR is creating for the franchise’s new saga.
The project is currently in the early stages of development by Fool’s Theory – a game development studio specializing in RPG titles. The team has several veteran developers who have previously worked on The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings e The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and CD PROJEKT RED is providing full creative oversight.
Adam Badowski, Head of Studio at CD PROJEKT RED, says:
“The Witcher is where it all started for CD PROJEKT RED. It was the first game we played, and it was a big moment for us. Going back to it and remaking the title for the next generation of players to experience it feels like just as big a project, if not bigger. Collaborating with Fool’s Theory on this project is very exciting, as some of the people on the team have been involved with The Witcher games in the past. They know the source material well, they know how much players are looking forward to the remake, and they know how to make amazing and ambitious games. And while it will be some time before we are ready to share more information, I know the wait will be worth it.”
Jakub Rokosz, CEO of Fool’s Theory, comenta:
“I am delighted that my professional path has once again brought me together with other developers from the time we worked together on The Witcher 2 and The Witcher 3. Especially as it is a remake of a project that is so close to our hearts. We are excited to join forces with CD PROJEKT RED and our goal is to bring players another great title in the iconic series.”
