New rules from the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) began to take effect this Thursday (Nov 04) to combat abusive telemarketing calls.
Anatel’s objective is to combat short-term calls, which do not exceed 3 seconds. In these cases, the consumer answers, but doesn’t get to talk to anyone, because the phone call is ended immediately. If according to the agency, it is a practice of companies that use robots to trigger mass calls.
From now on, companies that make 100,000 calls a day and at least 85% of them are within 3 seconds may have their lines blocked for 15 days. In addition, they are subject to a fine that can reach R$ 50 million and will have the data disclosed on the internet by the telephone operators.
The member of Anatel’s Board of Directors, Emmanoel Campelo, explains:
“The company, what it is doing, is not even telemarketing. She’s doing a record check. Simply, checking if that line has someone on the other end. What we are fighting is behavior that causes inconvenience to the consumer and is absolutely useless from a communications point of view – in addition to generating an overload on the telephone networks themselves.”
