Top pro-players on the planet, amateurs from different countries, exclusive maps and an innovative game system. With the right to tough turns and matches, m0NESY, drop, GaBi, cadiaN and several Counter Strike: Global Offensive stars faced the international stage of Red Bull Flick, the biggest CS:GO 2×2 tournament in the world.
In Copenhagen (DEN), Brazil took teams from FURIA and Fluxo, but saw amateurs surprise, eliminate CS:GO icons, drive the public crazy and reach the final of the competition. All the better for Kuusamogg’s Puteli and 8Juho8, who beat Swiiiry’s raks0n and mati 3-1 in MD5 to claim the trophy. Fans were still able to follow all the emotions through the Gaules broadcast on Twitch. Puteli says:
“I got everything I wanted this year: winning Spirit and being the great champion of the season. We met at the 2021 edition, but we never imagined that we could lift this trophy.”
Brazilian champions in 2022, Adriano ‘wood7fps’ Cerato and Lucas ‘Lux’ Meneghini competed in the group stage of the event aiming for the last two playoff spots, on Saturday (19). In even games decided by details, the duo lost 2-3, beating ‘spek and swicher’ and ‘MoustacheCat and Prix’, but falling to ‘drext and Frozen’, ‘HenkkyG and naturaL’ and ‘peanutworld and MAT1Z’.
In the playoffs, Gabriela “GaBi” Maldonado and André “drop” Abreu represented FURIA and, right away, faced Heroic, from Casper “cadiaN” Møller and Martin “stavn” Lund, executioner of the men’s lineup at the Rio de Janeiro Major January. This time at home, they repeated their performance and overcame the Brazilians by 2-0, dominating flags A and B in the two rounds of CS:GO, played in MD1, in the upper bracket. Next, FURIA faced Copenhagen Flames, owned by Rasmus “raalz” Steensborg and Johannes “b0RUP”, in the lower bracket. Even in balanced games, GaBi and drop were unable to continue in the competition.
Drop, who praised the presence of the pro-player from the FURIA female lineup at her side, comments:
“Last year, KSCERATO and yuurih participated and I stayed with them. When I entered the server, I was surprised. I like trying hard, I don’t like losing, but I enjoyed playing the event alongside GaBi. The experience was really nice. I felt very comfortable playing with GaBi, we had a lot of fun. If we paint another opportunity, we will repeat the duo.”
GaBi also commented:
“The experience was very different, nice. We’re not used to playing against these players that we’re fans of. And being next to the drop, at the event, was really cool.”
Sub-zero temperature, hot games!
Without the traditional CS:GO maps, in Red Bull Flick the theme of the competition starts on the futuristic planet BU-11. With exclusive arenas and futuristic design, the event put the players in fast gameplays, about 10 to 15 minutes long. The objective was to control capture points for a certain period of time, with the capture point changing every 30 seconds. A ticket countdown system tracked the score, and when a team’s tickets ran out, it lost the game.
And not even the temperature, which was below 0ºC, prevented the games from being hot and exciting the public. Through this unique Red Bull Flick dynamic, the amateurs managed to surprise the pro-players. That’s how Fluxo stayed along the way, seeing the Polish ‘raks0n e mati’, from Swiiiry, and the Estonian ‘Puteli’ and the Finnish ‘8Juho8’, from Kuusamogg, advance to the playoffs. In addition to FURIA, Heroic and Copenhagen Flames, G2 (Ilya “m0NESY” Osipo and Justin “jks” Savage), OG (Shahar “flameZ” Shushan and Maciej “F1KU” Miklas), Ninjas in Pajamas (Patrick “es3tag” Hansen and Jonas “calc” Gundersen), Spirit (Boris “magixx” Vorobyev and Robert “Patsi” Isyanov) and BIG EQUIPA (Marta “D7” Barreira and Ana “Zana” Queiroz) were present at the event.
After the group stage, Kuusamogg overcame Team Spirit and Swiiiry to reach the final, while the Poles beat Heroic, lost to the Estonian-Finnish duo and regained their chance against Team Spirit, in Lower. In the decision, Kuusamogg started in front, having qualified for Upper. However, the advantage did not last long, as the opponents tied in the sequence. More focused, Puteli and 8Juho8 managed to regain confidence and, with aggressive style, won the next two maps against Swiiiry in order to lift the trophy.
In addition to Kuusamogg and Swiiiry, first and second placed, the Top 10 was also formed by Team Spirit (3rd), OG (4th), Heroic (5th), G2 (6th), Ninjas in Pajamas (7th), CPH Flames (8th ), BIG TEAM (9th) and FURIA (10th). The event distributed around 50,000 euros among the top eight and had global partnerships with Agon by AOC, AMD and Backforce.
