The safety of LGBTQIA+ people in Qatar is the motivation behind the campaign promoted by Associação ILGA Portugal – Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Intervention, regarding the Football World Cup. In partnership with the agency COMON and Studio Nuts, the association launches the Pride Stands initiative, in the free translation pride stands, to fill the stadiums with the colors of the rainbow.
With the support of the gamer community, having as an ambassador the two-time national champion of the FIFA online game, Raquel Martinho, Pride Stands brings a series of visibility actions to the LGBTQIA+ movement in the online universe, a safe place for any community to be. In one of them, streamers can play FIFA, on the streaming platform Twitch, in stadiums where the colors of the rainbow are present.
Tico Moraes, partner at Studio Nuts, says:
“We developed images of virtual arenas in all these colors, available to any streamer who wants to use them as a background during their match.”
Images can also be downloaded by anyone who wants to use them in online meetings. In addition, the studio created the filter Pride for the fan to take a selfie using a bandana with the colors and post it on their networks.
The initiative also draws attention to the work of the Proud Maroons team, the first group of LGBTQIA+ football supporters in Qatar. “The idea is to get people to mobilize in favor of this group’s action fronts, Human Rights, supporting diversity on the football fields”, he concludes.
