Through a Snapchat filter, the magazine allows fans to turn all flags into pride flags.
The World Cup in Qatar is being marked not only by the games, but also by the controversies involving LGBTQIAP+ rights.
With that in mind, magazine Corner developed a way to ensure that these minorities were represented during the biggest football championship in the world through the “Pride Nation” initiative.
The activation consists of a Snapchat social network filter that uses augmented reality to transform country flags into the LGBTQIAP+ pride flag.
FIFA has banned rainbow armbands, the organization is confiscating flags and detaining people who are there to celebrate diversity and football. Corner will always defend that football is for everyone and take a stand when it comes to human rights. With this campaign, we are simply trying to somehow prevent peaceful manifestations of love from ending up in truculence and jail, explained Fernando Martinho, founder and editor of Corner.
The tool is available free of charge to anyone who wants to demonstrate their pride without risk. So far, 72 people have been registered protesting in Doha with the tool and, for now, none of them have had problems with local authorities because of it.
understand the case
During competition days, cases are being reported of fans being banned from entering the stadiums because they were carrying items reminiscent of the rainbow, a symbol of the community. Among these cases, the American journalist Grant Whal and the former captain of the Wales national team are on the list of people who were stopped and who were at risk of arrest for carrying the colors on their clothes.
