If playing on the couch isn’t enough for the public, Tesla has a new offering: playing in the car. The company has announced that gamers will be able to play Steam games on select Model S and X Teslas as part of an upcoming holiday update.
In the promotional video released by Tesla, you can see a user playing Cyberpunk 2077 and browsing the Steam store. Wireless controllers are supported, as well as a mouse and keyboard (although the latter configuration is undoubtedly unwieldy). To access Steam’s beta feature, drivers need a Tesla Model S and X released in 2022, 16GB DDR and Premium Connectivity.
Elon Musk, owner of the company, took to Twitter to confirm retrofit possibilities for older Tesla models, as Steam integration is currently limited to very new vehicles.
Steam’s integration with Tesla is not a surprise. Musk said he wanted to bring Steam to Tesla earlier this year and has always been interested in bringing games to its flagship vehicles.
Tesla had some issues with the US auto safety agency when users could still play the game even with the car in motion. Later, the company disabled this feature and now the games can only be played while the car is stationary.
