Focused on understanding how the end-of-year celebrations impact consumer behavior, OLX has just completed a study with more than 5,000 users to analyze Brazilians’ buying patterns for Christmas. According to the survey, 23% of respondents plan to gift someone on this date, such as children or stepchildren (46%), spouses or boyfriends (42%), father and mother (30%) or themselves (30%).
Most of those surveyed, 63%, are willing to pay more than R$150 to purchase the gift, while 17% would spend between R$100 and R$150; 13%, from R$50 to R$100; and 7% would disburse up to R$50.
Most wanted items within the platform for gifts
Among those who are planning to buy something, electronics and cell phones are the preference of more than half (54%) of respondents to gift someone. Then come fashion and beauty items (32%), items for the home (25%), sweets such as panettone and other chocolates (14%), and experiences such as dining out and hot air ballooning (11%).
Payment
When asked about their preferred method of paying for the purchase, around 42% of participants pointed to PIX as the best option.
On the other hand, 35% choose to pay in installments using their credit card and 33% to pay in cash or by bank slip. Cash settlement on a debit or credit card is indicated by 21% for each method.

“Even at a time of financial crisis, high inflation and family debt, our survey shows that Brazilians do not want to stop giving gifts to those they like this Christmas. 92% of those surveyed intend to buy the treat through OLX. Our platform, therefore, proves to be an option for those looking for quality products at more affordable prices, which is the case of second-hand objects, and also for those who want to contribute to sustainable consumption through the circular economy.”
