Pel died this Thursday afternoon (29) in São Paulo.
The greatest of all time. Genius. The best. The list of adjectives to define Pel is extensive, and its name itself has become a quality. The Pel of basketball, the Pel of television, the Pel of communication.
Born in Três Coraes (MG), Pel won three of the five World titles for the Brazilian team. For Santos, his favorite club, he conquered the world twice, in addition to having stopped a civil war, in Congo, in 1969, for a friendly match with the Santos team.
Pel was also on television and in theaters, where he was an actor in films such as ‘Fuga para a Vitória’, in the early 1980s, and in the Brazilian feature film ‘Os Trombadinhas’, in 1979. In soap operas, he participated in ‘O Salvador da Ptria’, ‘History of Love’, and ‘O Clone’.
In advertising, Pel was also Pel. The greatest player of all time starred in emblematic campaigns, such as the jingle ‘Toda Criança na Escola’, created by the Ministry of Education, during the government of Fernando Henrique Cardoso. The King of Football was also with Carlos Moreno, in campaigns for Bombril. In one of them, Pel’s famous ‘understand’ was the creative hook for the action.
Advertising was also the instrument capable of putting Pele alongside other big names in football, such as Cristiano Ronaldo (in a film for Fly Emirates), Zidane and Maradona (yes, the three of them together) for an action made for Louis Vuitton.
