Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. today announced the release of its new portable display and entertainment device, The Freestyle, ahead of CES 2022. The Freestyle offers unprecedented technology and flexibility to provide optimal viewing and entertainment for customers who want to take content from video and audio wherever they are.
Aimed at Generation Z and Y, The Freestyle is a giant, intelligent, pluggable projection screen, plus an ambient lighting device, all packaged in a lightweight, portable device. Samsung launches The Freestyle, the new portable screen
When it comes to portability, The Freestyle weighs just 830 grams, allowing you to turn any space into a canvas with ease. Unlike conventional box-shaped projectors, Freestyle’s versatile cradle allows rotation up to 180 degrees, allowing users to display high-quality video anywhere – desks, floors, walls or even ceilings – without the need for a screen separate.
“The Freestyle is unique. It’s the ultimate in versatility and flexibility to meet the changing lifestyles of consumers,” said Simon Sung, Executive Vice President and Sales and Marketing Team Leader for the Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “Without the limitation of space and format, The Freestyle is a fun and versatile device that can be used in any way consumers prefer.”
The Freestyle offers Smart TV features available via Samsung’s Tizen platform, with integrated streaming services and mirroring and streaming features compatible with Android and iOS mobile devices.
It is the industry’s first portable projector certified by leading global OTT partners, providing customers with the best content viewing experience. It is also the first projector to include far-field voice control, allowing users to choose their favorite voice assistants6 when using the device hands-free.
The Freestyle comes with fully automatic keystone and auto-leveling features, enabled by industry-leading technology. The features allow the device to automatically adjust your screen to any surface at any angle, providing a perfectly proportioned image at every moment.
Plus, the auto focus feature allows The Freestyle to display a sharp image⁴ on any surface, at any angle, up to 100 inches in size. The Freestyle also comes with a dual passive radiator that allows for clearer, deeper bass without distortion, and its 360 degree sound radiation lets customers enjoy a cinema-quality sound experience no matter where they are.
To power it, The Freestyle is compatible with external batteries which support USB-PD and output 50W / 20V or above, so users can take it anywhere, whether on the go, on a camping trip and more. The Freestyle is also a pioneer in being the first portable display that works when connected to a standard E26 light socket without the need for additional wiring, and is compatible with the traditional plug option.
When not used as a projector to stream content, The Freestyle also offers ambient lighting effect thanks to its ambient mode and translucent lens cap. The Freestyle is also a smart speaker that analyzes music to pair visual effects that can be projected onto the wall, floor, and anywhere else.
The Freestyle will air during CES 2022 Jan. 5-7 and will go on online pre-order in the US market Jan. 4, with availability to expand to other global markets in the coming months.
