The stories of the “Vozes da Diversidade” initiative can be seen on the official Disney+ Brazil channel on Youtube. These are stories that bring emotion, reality and a lot of representation to those who often cannot identify with the entertainment universe. AdNews attended PressDay and had the opportunity to meet some real people from these stories.
It is impossible not to get emotional when listening to Victorya, a beautiful 21-year-old girl, tell how the movie “The Princess and the Frog” was part of a very difficult time in her life in which she went through countless situations of racism, violence at home and in the school. One day, a teacher, noticing the situations that the girl was going through at school, showed the aforementioned film in the classroom, seeking to empower the girl and raise awareness among the students.
Today, Victorya is an empowered girl who delivers a lot of representation in her story. (2) Voices of Diversity | Victoria | Tiana – YouTube It was a pleasure to meet Sarah, a beautiful 25-year-old girl who claims that representation is about belonging. She identifies with the story of Finding Nemo, a 2003 Disney film.
During the chat with those present, two sentences of hers summed up the project perfectly: “In my life I had these friends who helped me” (alluding to the friends Nemo made at the aquarium); It is “It’s okay to be different– Sarah on commenting about being a person with a disability. Breno, 36 years old, makes an impact not only because of his size – he is quite tall – but because of his so empowered speech that he talks openly about the fact that he is outside the so-called standards imposed by society. He draws attention to the power of welcoming and the importance of support networks, and happily tells us about the impact of the film Aladin on his career.
In addition to these real people who are so generous in sharing their stories, the project totaled 10 videos, with each video focused on a story, presenting true, empowered and authentic accounts of people with disabilities, LGBTQIA+, black and neurodivergent people, who had their lives positively impacted by Disney characters.
Something that positively impacted us in this campaign was the fact that Disney is showing that its stories have always talked about Diversity, that is, they are not just the most recent productions. Now is the time to give more voice to these movements.
In addition, according to company executives, it is a path of no return, where content and projects aligned with Diversity and Inclusion are already part of the day-to-day of every company. And the “Voices of Diversity” initiative was created to be a hub for future DE&I projects that bring representation. Whenever we learn about Diversity projects, the editors ask about the accessibility of the materials. In the case of Disney, the initiative’s videos were all produced with accessibility features, such as Brazilian sign language (Libras) and audio-descriptive subtitles. Point to Disney.
Another interesting point of the Voices of Diversity initiative is that it brings mainly adult stories, as they believe that literacy can come from them, since children already visualize diversity in a more natural way.
The videos are also available on the website disney.com.br/vozesdadiversidade, on the profiles of the Disney franchises on Instagram (@disneystudiosbr, @disneyprincesabr, @marvelbrasil, @starwarsbr) and, later, will be published on the profile of Disney+ (@disneyplusbr), taking advantage of Disney’s social media ecosystem and relying on a publicity campaign in synergy with all PayTV and Radio Disney channels, the Disney website and a content project with the program Altas Horas, on TV Globo.
The content was created by New Vegas, B&Partners.co’s digital agency, based on a partnership with Disney. The agency was also responsible for curating the stories selected in collaboration with the company’s DE&I and Marketing teams. The scripts, direction and production of the contents were in charge of the audiovisual producer Broders.Vozes da Diversidade is the new campaign of The Walt Disney Company Brasil.
