Jim Lanzone, CEO of the company, said that the dismissal is a reflection of ‘strategic changes’
Yahoo will cut more than 20% of its employees, globally speaking around 1,600 people. As reported by the American newspaper Axios, a thousand positions ceased to exist, which represents 12% of the total layoffs.
The remainder, 8%, should happen in the second half.
In Brazil, the impact reached Yahoo Business, which is its advertising division. According to UOL’s Tilt, 80 professionals were fired wanted, Yahoo said it would not comment on the layoffs.
Yahoo CEO Jim Lanzone said the layoffs were not a reflection of a financial problem, but a strategic shift. These changes will be extremely beneficial to Yahoo’s overall profitability,” he told Axios.
In September 2021, Apollo Global Management announced the completion of the acquisition of Verizon Media. That’s when, then, the company started to act as Yahoo. At the time, Verizon, former owner of the brand, retained a 10% stake in the company.
