Dove launched an initiative that seeks to encourage the inclusion of bodies on the beaches of Rio de Janeiro, inspired by responses to a survey carried out by the company and carried out by Instituto Idea.
According to the survey, 51% of PCD people and 42% of fat and non-standard people have already stopped going to the place due to structural limitations, so the brand has developed beach chair models to cover a greater diversity of bodies. and accessible for PCDs.
In addition, the study also pointed out that 20% of the interviewed fat people do not enjoy going to the beach because they simply do not fit in the beach chairs; and for 50% of people with disabilities, due to lack of structure.
Our mission is to question society about established standards and the way it sees or fails to see marginalized bodies. When we see that the beach, a place that should be the most democratic and accessible for all, in reality, does not correspond to that, we have a problem and we need to prioritize the creation of inclusive spaces, said Paula Paiva, Digital and Media leader at Dove .
The chairs are available at “Espaço Dove Um Lugar ao Sol”, located on Leme beach, in Rio de Janeiro, from March 8th, free of charge. In addition to this, the action will also take place on the beaches of Arpoador, Ipanema and Leblon.
The space, which is open until March 7, also offers non-binary and more spacious bathrooms, access ramps to the beach and amphibious chairs, with physiotherapists, to allow wheelchair users to safely enter the sea. After the 7th of March, chairs will be made available to stallholders along the Rio de Janeiro waterfront.
When we give these people a voice and discover that many of them do not go to the beach due to accessibility issues, it is necessary to provoke and think of solutions that guarantee the right to go there and belong. This is the purpose of Espaço Dove: Um Lugar ao Sol, which was born so that different profiles and needs can be on the beach, on the sand or anywhere, allowing access to those who were not there, proposing a reflection to those who already frequent the place, concluded Paula .
