The production has a great cast: Vanessa Giácomo, Julia Lemmertz, Marcos Pitombo, João Simões, an actor with Down syndrome who plays one of the protagonists, and Rafael Primot who, in addition to acting, directs the plot alongside Otávio Pacheco. In the story, written by Rafael Primot and Franz Keppler, the brothers Zeca (Marcos Pitombo) and Vitor (Rafael Primot) need to take care of their younger brother, Lucas (João Simões), a 16-year-old teenager with Down Syndrome, after the death of their parents. parents, played by Julia Lemmertz and ZéCarlos Machado. For this, they will have the help of Julie (Vanessa Giácomo), Vitor’s wife; Micha (Leona Jhovs), a trans woman welcomed by the protagonists’ mother; and Aunt Yara (Denise Del Vecchio).
“For a long time I wanted to do a series with this theme, that the center of the story was a boy with Down syndrome. I watched the movie “The Eighth Day”, by Jaco Van Dormael, which moved me a lot and I felt the need to tell a story in which one of the protagonists was an actor with Down syndrome. Along with that, I wanted to make a story that was about a family drama told a little bit from this point of view, this teenager. Then came the element of black rain, which is a fantastic element in the story, which transforms relationships and the narrative itself” – Rafael Primot.
During the press conference, the entire cast, with a lot of love, emotion and empathy, shared different moments of the work that highlighted João’s role. We heard stories about respect and support from the entire team that allowed him, this actor with Down syndrome, to occupy such an important place in the series.
“It was really nice to work with João. We were prepared to work with him. João as a person and actor that he is, he puts us in a real place. Because every time is different, which is his time” – comments an emotional Julia Lemmertz who played Lucas’ mother, João Simões’ character in the series. During her speech at the press conference, responding to AdNews about this relationship with João, Julia reflected on the respect for João and for each one of this family full of diversity, and even ends by saying that inclusion is about respect, and emphasizes the experience and João’s quality as an actor.
“One of the most difficult scenes was with João, inside the car, when Zeca had to be very hard on him. We did a very intense preparation with Rodrigo Frampton, our casting coach. We recorded the first time and Rafael asked me to go up two tones. Finding the temperature of this type of crash scene is difficult. João prepared a lot for this scene, it was one of the ones he wanted to do the most. When I was going back to the car, putting on my seat belt, João nudged me and said: “Look, you have to be brave, huh? It wasn’t very angry, no.” It was great, after that we had a laugh and had an amazing scene!” – Statement by Rafael Pitombo about his character’s scene with João.
