After reaching the milestone of 20,000 customers thanks to the launch of its Pre 2.0 chip with 2 GB of free internet, Veek, a mobtech that offers cell phone services without bureaucracy and 100% online, is betting on its first major commercial campaign, as Master Sponsor of the Gigantes de Nazaré surf event, in Portugal. The giant wave challenge, which took place from February 28th to March 1st, will be shown on the program Esporte Espetacular, on TV Globo, on March 26th.
Alberto Blanco, CEO and co-founder of Veek, comments that the idea of sponsoring the event came from the parallel they face on a daily basis, facing giants. “Our daily life is to fight against an exclusionary market, which favors established operators and which prevents the entry of MVNOs, harming competition. We thought: what better parallel than this, of men facing contrary winds, forces of nature and waves of more than 20 meters?”, emphasizes Blanco.
Executive Pablo São Thiago, co-founder of Veek and windsurfer who was in loco in Nazaré, remembers that the challenge is known as one of the most complex in the world of surfing, and still has an extremely positive impact on tourism. “Being present at the event was very exciting, I am a surfing enthusiast and seeing up close everything that Gigantes de Nazaré represents was extremely satisfying”, he reveals.
Challenge reaches gigantic numbers
This is the 5th edition of the challenge of the Giant Waves of Nazaré, which in previous years already had competitors such as Pedro Scooby, Alemão de Maresias, Michelle Des Bouillouns, Ian Cosenza, Justine Dupont and Lucas Chumbo who surfed the biggest wave of all, in the 4th edition, of 29.67 meters.
The best surfers in the world face waves that exceed 25 meters in height. The competition also comprises an international challenge of Tow-in Surfing, a modality in pairs, in which the surfer is pulled to the wave by the partner’s jet-ski and later rescued.
The four previous editions impacted the world of surfing worldwide, obtaining 240 million audience impressions on TV Globo, R$ 100 million in media return, adding open and closed TV and social media, totaling 150 thousand people watching the event in person and more 500 million impressions of content through social media.
With television coverage from TV Globo, Sportv 2 and Sportv 3, including Esporte Espetacular, Globo Esporte, Jornal da Globo, Jornal Nacional and SporTV na Área, the 4th edition resulted in R$ 18 million in media financial return for sponsors
The impact on social networks is also huge: 208 million total impressions of content in the last season, occupying the position of trending topic on Twitter, being the 2nd most searched keyword on Google in the period in the country. The official Instagram account has 691,000 followers, with 559,000 engaged accounts and 31.1 million content impressions.
Tik Tok already has 464 thousand followers, 664 thousand likes and 20 million views of related videos, including the 5th most viewed video in Brazil on Tik Tok in one day. On Youtube, there are more than 13.6 million views and 142 thousand subscribers and on Facebook, 5 million people reached.
The official website Gigantes de Nazaré is the largest Big Surf portal in the world and the 2nd largest Tourism portal in Portugal. Sponsorship includes an omnichannel communication platform and action with more than 200 influencers.
