E3, one of the biggest events focused on the gamer community in the world, will lose two more exhibitors: Sega and Tencent. With the recent announcement by Ubisoft of skipping the event, along with other market giants such as Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft saying they are also out, the state of E3 is starting to be questioned by the general public and the market itself.
This information comes from a report by the international website IGN, in which several industry sources also expressed confusion about what exactly is happening at E3. The sources said there was “a significant lack of communication” of the organizers ReedPop and ESA, and that they “haven’t heard of anyone planning to attend for sure“.
While only Tencent and Sega confirmed to IGN that they wouldn’t be attending the event, the publication said it understands there are other companies that aren’t considering attending either and just haven’t made a public announcement yet.
“After careful consideration, we have decided not to attend E3 2023 as an exhibitor.”, Sega told IGN. “We look forward to sharing more information about announced and unannounced projects in the future.“
According to the American website, the organizer of the event, ReedPop, should also undergo an internal overhaul next month, with the departure of the company’s president, Lance Fensterman, and vice president Michael Kisken, taking over his position.
E3 2023 was supposed to mark the return of the iconic industry event after four years, but there seems to be significant concern amongst the industry over whether or not E3 will go ahead. ReedPop and the ESA did not respond to any media outlet’s request for comment, nor have they issued any official announcements with more information about what’s expected at E3.
