Shirt, produced by Nike, bears the name of the Corinthian Democracy movement
In 1983, Corinthians won the São Paulo championship for the second time, an achievement that was celebrated far beyond the pitch. Above all, the title was also the coronation of Corinthian Democracy, a management model for football based on democracy, a democracy that did not exist in Brazil at that time.
In this system, the votes of players, coaching staff and managers had equal weight when it came to discussing matters such as concentration regime and tactical schemes. And to remember this movement, Corinthians and Nike present the new collection in celebration of Corinthian Democracy.
Entirely white, the main shirt makes reference to the one used in the early 1980s. On the back, at the nape of the neck, the iconic Corinthian Democracy logo is immortalized. The Nike logo, in black, is outlined in red, next to the club badge. Completely black shorts complete the uniform.
In black, the second uniform brings back the classic white vertical stripes from the waist to the shoulder, with plain sleeves, a design that is maintained on the back of the piece. On the back, at the nape of the neck, there is the Corinthian Democracy logo. The red outline around the swoosh appears next to the club crest. The collection even features the option of white shorts, with entirely black socks.
Corinthian Democracy represents a revolutionary movement for Brazilian football, it transcends generations, it is in the DNA and the spirit of what Corinthians is all about. It is important for Nike to portray this movement in the new uniforms to reinforce the importance of Corinthian Democracy for younger fans, said Gustavo Viana, marketing director for Fisia, Nike’s distributor in Brazil.
