The lack of employment opportunities and the low qualification of the workforce are a reality on the outskirts of large cities. Given this context, in order to qualify low-income young people, train specialized labor to work in the incentive campaign market and open up job opportunities, Digi, hub of solutions for incentive campaigns, signed an unprecedented partnership with Mais1Code, a social impact business online that turns young people from the periphery into problem solvers for their “broken areas” through technology. This is Mais1Code’s first partnership with a hub from the area of marketing incentive.
The ‘Reprogramando a Quebrada’ project offers quality technological education and access to training paths for the social and economic development of young people from the periphery, especially women, black and brown, aged between 18 and 35 years.
The students who will be formed in partnership with Digi, hub that serves major brands such as Coca-Cola Brazil, Nestlé and Santander, will learn specific technologies to operate in the expertise from the company. According to technology manager Leonardo Moraes, with the heating of the market tech and lack of professionals in the area, there is a need to train the new generation to meet the sector’s demand.
“Our goal goes beyond having qualified labor within the technologies we use. We want to train people capable of changing the world, whether applying agile concepts, developing cutting-edge languages or creating complex data structures. Our focus is on giving opportunity to those who really need it, giving back a little of what we had when we started our careers. Having the privilege of taking this project off the ground is the realization of a big dream”, highlights Moraes.
At the end of the ten-month course, trainees sponsored by Digi may be incorporated by the company. In addition to Digi, companies such as Drogasil, Droga Raia, Sodexo, Zé Delivery, Grupo SBF, Instituto Coca-Cola Brasil and Instituto Nu, among others, have already supported the project.
“The ‘Reprogramando a Quebrada’ project is yet another act to strengthen Digi and meets our purpose of transforming people’s lives. Through innovation, students will develop themselves within technology, one of the important areas in the construction of incentive campaigns, and will be ready for the job market. Preparing these young people for a successful path has been rewarding and inspiring”, reinforces Barbara Ogoshi, director of People and Management at Digi.
Mais1Code project
The Mais1Code project, 100% online and free, was conceived in 2019 by Diogo Bezerra, graduated in Marketingmember of the Young Leader of the Americas program, also founder of the 4WAY language school with social impact, which later invited the other founding partner Tauan Matos, specialist in the expansion of high-end franchises, to be at the head of the business.
Both grew up in the periphery, have known each other since they were teenagers and decided to found the Mais1Code project when they were asked about the existence of a school that taught programming for free close to the peripheral regions, and far from the big city centers.
The free training school was implemented in 2020, and since then, more than 2,000 students have graduated, 70% of whom are women and 66% who consider themselves black or brown. In 2021, Mais1Code won the Social Impact Business Seal from Artemisia, a pioneering non-profit organization in the dissemination and promotion of social impact businesses in Brazil, and was invited to speak at 1mi, an event of the United Nations Fund for Childhood (UNICEF). In 2022, the project was presented at the Web Summit Lisbon, the biggest technology and innovation event in the world.
Regarding expectations with the project, Tauan Matos says that the partnership with Digi represents a step closer to the school’s main objective.
“Our purpose is to reduce as much as possible the number of unemployed young people in the communities, through the teaching of programming. This is why the partnership with Digi is so important. The more support for the project, the closer we will be to fulfilling our expectations, and above all, fostering the hope of young people from the periphery about a radical, but possible, change in their lives”, he concludes.
