LaLiga ask for more sanctioning powers, with the aim of being more efficient in the fight against racism
LaLiga will ask for more sanctioning powers, with the aim of being more agile and efficient in the fight against violence, racism, xenophobia and intolerance in sport. The first division of the Spanish football league has led the way in identifying and denouncing such behavior in football stadiums for years, but it feels impotent to see how its denunciations turn out.
In an official statement, LaLiga says that it feels tremendously frustrated by the lack of sanctions and convictions on the part of the sports disciplinary bodies and the public and judicial administrations to which LaLiga sends the complaints. For this reason, in the next few days, LaLiga will formally request the amendment of Law 19/2007, of July 11, against violence, racism, xenophobia and intolerance in sport, and Law 39/2022, of December 30, on sport.
The request seeks that LaLiga be able to exercise a position of disciplinary authority over incidents of this type that occur in professional competition matches, so that the disciplinary bodies of LaLiga can punish them, among other things, with the total or partial proximity of the sports area, with the prohibition of access in the cases of members/supporters and application of financial sanctions, without prejudice to the adoption of provisional or precautionary measures that are deemed appropriate, depending on the nature and severity of the incidents.
