A tribute with the grandeur that the ‘Silvio Santos Program’ deserves! There was a lot of partying, animation, fun and the presence of several famous guests who are in the history of the attraction, which took place yesterday (30), at SBT Studio 3, with a presentation by Patrícia Abravanel, the recording of the 60th anniversary special of program.
The special had the participation of Dona Iris Abravanel and all the daughters of Silvio Santos (Cíntia, Silvia, Daniela, Rebeca and Renata, in addition to Patrícia). Before the start of recording, Patricia even spoke to the press, who for the first time were invited to be part of the program’s VIP audience.
“He (Silvio Santos) says I’m doing very well. At first, I didn’t feel comfortable making jokes in the auditorium because it was so characteristic of him that I thought it wasn’t funny with me. Then I made very long pictures. He gave the tip for us to make pictures a little smaller and it worked. My dad is a much better communicator. Participatory, loving. He teaches us to be strong women. He never rubbed his head, never spoiled. But he always encouraged it”, said Patricia.
Who also participated in the conversation with the journalists was Silvio Santos’ wife, Dona Iris Abravanel, who said that Silvio is very happy with Patricia’s performance and even took the opportunity to joke with the press.
“I think he’s not coming because he’s settled with Patricia. But, I confess that I’m a little selfish and I’m loving having him all to myself… It’s been a really good time as a couple, as a family. He is very well, ”she confessed.
To celebrate the 60th anniversary of the ‘Silvio Santos Programme’, Patricia Abravanel received several personalities on stage, including the Vice President of the Republic, Geraldo Alckmin. Historical pictures of the attraction were also recorded to be shown next Sunday, with the participation of names that made and still make history in the program. On the list are Adriane Galisteu, Ary Toledo, Décio Piccinini, Eliana, Flor Fernandez, Gilliard, Ivo Holanda, Jane, Lady Zu, Leão Lobo, Lilian Knapp, Liminha, Luís Ricardo, Mara Maravilha, Nahim, Nelson Rubens, Ovelha, Roque , Sarajane, Sérgio Mallandro, Sônia Lima, Sylvinho Blau Blau and Trio Los Angeles.
In addition to them, other iconic names were also on the ‘Silvio Santos Program’, such as Daiza Lazarte Barros, the ‘Bamboo Girl’ and Luis Sales, a fan of Raça Negra. The special ‘Programa Silvio Santos 60 years old’ will be shown next Sunday (4th), right after the Tele Sena draw.
A story of success, innovation and lots of fun
In 1963, the director of the defunct TV Paulista (channel 5), Paulo de Grammont, offered Silvio Santos the opportunity to rent the station’s Sunday afternoon slot, which at the time was off the air, so that he could present a new television program. . Even knowing that there was no tradition for the general public to watch television during this period, Silvio Santos’ innovative vision made him believe in the offer and accept the challenge: on Sunday, June 2nd, the Program debuted full of variety, games and prizes, Silvio Santos.
Initially shown from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm, the program had three attractions: Beware of the Buzina, the first freshman program led by Silvio Santos; Justice of Men, dramaturgical sketches that ended with a trial on stage; and Pra Ganhar é Só Rodar, which had already been shown for some years in the station’s night time slot, and Silvio transferred it to the Sunday show. The audience, which until then did not exist, began to increase and place TV Paulista among the top stations in São Paulo.
Over the course of the decade, the program gained time, new attractions emerged, and the inevitable growth was accompanied by resounding success. In 1964, while running the Sunday show on TV Paulista, Publicidade Silvio Santos, a company that produced its programs independently, also began to rent space on TV Tupi, the extinct channel 4 in São Paulo, to present other attractions. The premiere took place with the Festival da Casa Própria, in November of that year, and for the first time, a television program delivered a house to its viewers.
In the 1960s, among the great successes of the Silvio Santos Program, the Corrida da Bola Branca, Rainha por Um Dia, These Children, Rodada de Ouro, Partida de Cem, Os Galãs Sing and Dance on Sundays, Música e Alegria , Ask and Dance, City Against City, in addition to the already mentioned Pra Ganhar é Só Rotar and Beware of the Horn. In 1965, TV Paulista is sold to Grupo Globo, and the new station becomes the “home” of the Silvio Santos Sunday Program.
In 1969, the program was already considered a phenomenon in audience and innovation, being the only independent TV program with a production of more than 11 hours per week (9 and a half hours on Sundays + 3 hours per week, on average). The Sunday beat the Ibope of the popular program ‘Jovem Guarda’, on RecordTV, with Roberto Carlos. And the nightly weekly, at the time, Cidade Contra Cidade, reached the level of only 1 point under the transmission of the man’s landing on the moon, displayed in a pool from Brazilian broadcasters. In the same year, the Press Trophy becomes an annual part of its programming.
In the 1970s, the consolidation of a great work was marked by unforgettable programs such as Boa Noite Cinderela, Só Compra Quem Tem, Arrisca Tudo, Loteria Esportiva Show, Sinos de Belém, Silvio Santos Show, Os Grandes Momentos de Sua Vida, Long live Samba, Silvio Santos Different, His Majesty Ibope, Gold Record and Anonymous Talent Show. In 1973, on more than one occasion, the program reached 100% audience share in several minutes, records rarely achieved in the history of Brazilian TV.
In the Sinos de Belém program, Silvio showed his courageous side, climbing firefighters’ ladders or being the target of knife throwers. In Silvio Santos Different, the animator presented himself more seriously, in a sober tone, interviewing controversial artists with the support of a diverse and eclectic jury. In 1972, the Silvio Santos weekly night program, by Tupi, becomes colored, when produced in the station’s studios, in Sumaré (SP). At the same time, the large volume of production led to the creation of the production company Estúdios Silvio Santos Cinema e Televisão, responsible for producing the programs. What had started with a single producer and director, Luciano Callegari, now had a team of more than 50 people, including producers, technicians, scenographers, dressing rooms and makeup. The studios in Vila Guilherme also started to record some of the programs shown in the weekly attraction.
In 1976, Sunday leaves Globo, where it was produced in black and white, and is shown by the then formed Rede Tupi, for all of Brazil, now in color, at the same time that it was shown by its first TV station , TV Studios Silvio Santos, or TVS (channel 11 in Rio de Janeiro). New programs aired, and remain until today in the public’s memory: Show de Calouros, Domingo no Parque, What’s the Music, Dating on TV, a new version of Cidade Contra Cidade and Festival de Sucessos.
In 1980, as a result of difficulties at Rede Tupi, the program was also presented by RecordTV in São Paulo, and by a Rede de Emissoras Independentes throughout Brazil, adding TVS Rio. The following year, the Silvio Santos Group, already recognized for its solid performance from north to south of Brazil, wins the concession of the Brazilian Television System (SBT), and the Silvio Santos Program is aired by its own network throughout the country.
In the 1980s, Rear Camera (which brought Hidden Cameras), Porta da Esperança, Roletrando, Cinderella, The Price Is Right, The Day You Were Born, She Said He Said (which had a version in the previous decade), All for Money , Awards Show, among others. And from April 1988, Gugu Liberato shares Sundays with Silvio Santos, creating a new tradition on TV.
With the arrival of the 90s, new and diversified attractions filled the schedule of SBT, such as Topa Tudo por Dinheiro, In the Name of Love, Gol Show, Tentação, Hot Hot Hot, Sorteio da Tele Sena, Festival da Casa Própria, Xaveco and the new version of What’s the Music. Silvio Santos shows that he renews himself at every moment.
At the beginning of the 2000s, two attractions confirmed that the Silvio Santos Program does not stop in time, and is always aware of innovations. The Million Show, a game show that made an impact on the public and had a record number of letters in sponsored promotion, and Casa dos Artistas, which stopped Brazil presenting the realities of confinement in a house with 33 cameras.
Also in the decade, Roda a Roda, Casamento à Moda Antiga, Topa ou Não Topa, Todos Contra Um, O Grande Perdedor, Protagonistas de Soap operas and others debut. But, in 2008, Silvio Santos brings together more than 50 years of attractions, revamped and modernized in the New Silvio Santos Program.
The news goes far beyond the name, bringing games, contests (which revealed new names in the artistic milieu), musicals, competitions, the new Pontoinhos Game, which had its first version in the 70s, on the program Quem Sabe Mais: o Homem ou a Mulher, and Hidden Cameras, which diversified by investing in horror themes, launching some of the biggest virals in the world on platforms and social networks, such as The Phantom Girl of the Elevator, and versions of great cinema releases, such as Chucky (Toy Assassin), Annabelle, It a Coisa, Carrie a Estranha, Boneco do Mal, among others. The children’s-themed “Cameras” also rescued great TV classics, such as Vila Sésamo and O Picapau Amarelo, by Monteiro Lobato.
In the following decade, new games: Um Milhão na Mesa, Vamos Brincar de Forca (a version of the first program designed by Silvio Santos), Jogo das Fichas and the new version of Pra Ganhar é Só Rodar.
In 2020, preserving his health as a result of the pandemic, Silvio Santos stepped away from the command of the attraction, but he didn’t stop for a second. He was attentive to the news for SBT’s programming, and as soon as possible, he returned to the stage. The following year, Patricia Abravanel, who has been participating in the attraction since 2011, brings new paintings, taking turns with her father in the presentation, always keeping the high spirits, with the main objective that permeates the Silvio Santos Program over 60 years: bring a lot of joy to the public so that Sunday is light, pleasant, full of laughter and good humor, bringing together the Brazilian family in front of the TV.
