The decision was taken jointly by the city halls of the two capitals after an increase in the number of cases.
Together, the city halls of Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo announced the postponement of the samba school parades, which would take place between February 25th and 28th, for Tiradentes’ long holiday, on April 21st. The reason was the increase in the number of cases of Covid-19 in the two cities.
The decision was taken after a meeting between mayors Eduardo Paes (RJ) and Ricardo Nunes (SP), held by videoconference.
Last Wednesday (19), the city hall of the capital of São Paulo announced the protocols required for people who would parade and watch the presentations at the Anhembi sambadrome.
Because of the masks, until then, the question of harmony was removed from the trial. In addition, the city of São Paulo had stressed that, in case of an increase in the number of cases, the party could be postponed.
On the 6th, Mayor Ricardo Nunes also announced the cancellation of the street Carnival in the city. However, in today’s announcement, there were no details on whether the blocks would also be held on the same date.
In Rio de Janeiro, which had also canceled the street party, the city’s scientific committee met to talk about a possible postponement of the parades at Marquês da Sapucaí.
