The festivity should move BRL 6 billion during the month of June
The Festa Junina should move around R$ 6 billion during this month of June, mainly during the days of Santo Antnio (13), São João (24) and São Pedro (29), according to data from the Ministry of Tourism.
According to a study developed by Neogrid, in partnership with Horus, carried out between May and July 2022, some of the most consumed items at this time of year had a lot of fluctuation in the breakage rate.
“The June festivities generate opportunities for retailers, boosting sales of products and ingredients for dishes typical of that time. To take advantage of the moment, it is important to anticipate and understand how the shopper behaved in the last year to plan actions and guarantee the presence of the preferred products on the shelves”, stated Luiza Zacharias, director of New Business at Horus.
According to the survey, in 2022 there was a 4% increase in the consumption of canned corn and the same happened with the apple, which, at that time, was wrapped in a crunchy coating to become the sweet that represents an act of romanticism, presenting an average stockout rate of 32% in the period from May to July 2022. Paoca was another food item that was in great demand, reaching an average of 24% out of stock in the same period.
On the other hand, microwave popcorn was the least missing item in June 2022, missing from 16% of shelves. In addition, peanut candy and national wine were the products that least appeared in shopping carts, with the former having a 0.27% share of sales and the latter presenting the highest average ticket recorded in the aforementioned quarter, with a value of of BRL 29.44.
Fub also did not have much prominence in the last year and had an average amount spent of R$ 5.75, with an incidence of 0.8%, second only to peanut candy and wine.
“On seasonal dates, it is normal to have higher stockouts in typical products for the period. For 2023, a similar behavior is expected in the highlighted categories. It is up to retail and industry to prepare to avoid shortages as much as possible and, consequently, loss of sales . And technology is always an ally in this process. There are several solutions capable of analyzing consumption data and generating strategic insights to sell more, with more profitability, even during the June festivities”, concluded Robson Munhoz, Director of Customer Success at Neogrid.
