On January 25th, the city of São Paulo will be 468 years old. Stage for much of Brazilian history and responsible for several cultural activities, the capital will have a special program in its birthday.

Sao Paulo’s birthday
1 – Catavento Museum
In addition to celebrating the anniversary of São Paulo, the Weathervane Museum will also pay tribute to 100 years of Modern Art Week, based in the city in 1922. The exhibition “Peripheral Steamer ” is a partnership with Fábricas de Cultura, and will present reinterpretations of consecrated works of modernism, made by local graffiti artists. The exhibition will be open to the public from 9 am to 5 pm, and will be available until February.

2 – Filo Machado Show – SESI
On January 26th, to celebrate the city’s 468th anniversary, Filo Machado, also celebrates his 60-year career as a multi-instrumentalist. The show will take place at Sesi Sao Paulo Theater, at 8 pm, and tickets are free, and must be reserved through the institution’s website.
3 – House of Roses
The programming of House of Roses for the anniversary of São Paulo, will include recreational activities promoted by the Educational Action Center of the museum itself, a recital dedicated to the city and presentation of the project “Sing to poetry”, with the choir of the House. Starting at 11 am on the 25th, the event requires the presentation of the vaccination passport, certifying the two doses of the vaccine.
4 – Cultural Center of São Paulo
THE Cultural center always brings news to the city. For the celebration of 468 years, one of the events will be the Modernism Film Festival 22+100 and Anniversary of São Paulo, presenting works by filmmakers related to Modernism.
On the 25th, in the Sala Lima Barreto, the films will be “São Paulo Corporation”, at 6 pm, and “The Case of the Naves Brothers”, at 19:45. Tickets are free and will be available one hour before the schedule.
5 – MIS (Museum of Image and Sound)
The museum will exhibit “Samsung Rock Exhibition Rita Lee”, with free admission, collecting the ticket directly at the reception. The action relies on material chosen by the artist herself and her son, john lee, curator of the show. There are hundreds of original items that go through the history of the Queen of Rock, bringing entertainment to the public on the 25th. The event also requires a vaccination passport, registering at least two doses.
6 – FIESP
The institution brings the exhibition “Era Uma Vez o Moderno”, in partnership with the Institute of Brazilian Studies at the University of São Paulo, bringing together the most diverse items, from diaries, letters, manuscripts, photos and works of the artists who were part of the Modern in Brazil, between 1910 and 1944.
Admission is free and can be visited until May 29, 2022, contemplating works and reflections by Mário de Andrade, Tarsila do Amaral, Anita Malfatti and several other important artists of the time.
7 – Japan House
Japan House São Paulo is promoting the Daruma campaign, with the aim of disseminating the Japanese custom linked to the lucky charm. The action takes place both remotely and in person, and will bring the doll to 6 different addresses in the city, until February 27, completely free of charge. On São Paulo’s 468th birthday, he will be in a special place for the celebration.
8 – Theatro Municipal
On January 25, at 8 pm, the Theater’s Show Room will present the Municipal Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Alessandro Sangiorgi. Tickets range in price between R$10 and R$60, and the space will follow all Covid-19 safety protocols.
9 – Praça da Colmeia
Pátio Metrô São Bento signed a partnership with the OHquidea project, which will present the city with more than 100 orchid seedlings. The public will be invited to plant them and even write a wish, in Praça da Colmeia, from 10 am to 12 pm.
10 – Walking Tour
Finally, there are several guided tours, which can be done on foot, to get to know the capital and its history. Among them are some free and some paid, and even those for tourists from other countries, such as SP Free Walking Tour e Triangle Paths, for example.
