The gaming world can be quite toxic and prejudiced. The most recent data, released in 2020 by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), an American non-governmental organization, indicate that 74% of players from games multiplayers already suffered some type of discrimination during the matches. Of these, 53% were victims of attacks based on race, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation or ethnicity. Aware of this scenario, the CBLOL Arena hosted the grand final of the First Stage of the IGNIS Cup this month, promoting the inclusive competitive scenario of League of Legends.
The paiN Gaming and Coven teams faced off to see who would be the champion of the tournament, and Coven won with a score of 3 to 1. The final game had the public to cheer and support the players in the decision.
Those present at the CBLOL Arena saw a very different environment than usual, as Riot Games brought a special look in celebration of LGBTQIAPN+ Pride Month. In addition to custom lighting, guests were able to celebrate the movement with LOL cups also featured in the colors of the LGBTQIAPN+ flag, reinforcing the message that the setting gamer one of its pillars is diversity and inclusion. The on-site activations remain until this Friday (30th) and are part of Riot Games Brasil’s campaign to combat homophobia, which will feature other actions until the end of the year.
In addition, within League there are celebrations related to the date. The community can enjoy emotes personalized messages from the champions of Runeterra on Twitch, also available for sharing on some messaging apps and social networks.
Riot Games celebrates Pride Month around the world, and amplifying the presence and voice of the LGBTQIAPN+ community is one of the pillars of support for the brand, whether in competitions, highlighting the talents that are part of the inclusive scene and creating more and more opportunities to grow in their careers; in the development of content within games, with the creation of characters that bring identification to the public, regardless of their gender; or in the work environment with its employees, with an increase in the number of underrepresented minorities in management and leadership positions in Brazil and at Riot globally in 2022, as disclosed in last year’s Annual Impact Report.
