The reason, according to the agency, is due to the ‘alignment of the broadcaster with the disinformation campaign’ last year
The MPF (Federal Public Ministry) requested, through a public civil action, the cancellation of three broadcasting licenses that were granted to Jovem Pan. In a note on the website, the MPF says that the request is due to the “alignment of the broadcaster with the disinformation campaign” between 2022 and the beginning of this year.
Also according to the agency, there was what he called the ‘systematic broadcast’ in its programming of content that ‘attacked the democratic regime’.
In addition to the cancellation of radio licenses, the MPF is asking that Jovem Pan be ordered to pay BRL 13.4 million as compensation for collective moral damages. The station was also asked to broadcast, at least 15 times a day between 6:00 am and 9:00 pm for four months, messages with official information about the reliability of the electoral process.
For the Federal Public Ministry, Jovem Pan would have disseminated content that discredited, without evidence, the 2022 electoral process, such as attacks on authorities and institutions, incitement to disobey laws and court decisions, among others.
Other side
The Jovem Pan Group, through a note, informed that it will express itself exclusively in the file of the process. “Grupo Jovem Pan reaffirms daily, over 80 years, its commitment to Brazilian society and democracy,” he said.
In addition to the vehicle, the Brazilian Association of Radio and Television Broadcasters also spoke out. Abert considers the public civil action filed by the Federal Public Ministry (MPF) to be ‘very worrying’.
‘The cancellation of a broadcasting license is an extreme and serious measure, without precedent in our Democratic State of Law. The broadcasters’ freedom of programming is fundamental for the free exercise of journalism and for the existence of pluralism of opinion, which must always be preserved. Abert will be vigilant in defending freedom of expression and the press and will follow the developments of the action,’ he informed.
