With the aim of shedding light on the importance of recovering native vegetation and providing a technological facilitator for those interested in investing in reforestation and offsetting their carbon footprint, the launch of the Os Greenies platform was announced, which sells digital art in the format of NFT linked to the planting of one million trees in the Atlantic Forest.
The project was created by a group of eight professionals from areas such as arts, advertising, technology, sports and the green economy who have a plan to positively impact the planet.
The proposal was born from the meeting of ideas that aimed to use the web3 as a means of raising funds to plant trees. With this, the founders also intend to show that it is possible to combine purpose and blockchain, offering the market an NFT of good.
The platform has a collection of 5005 digital arts made by designer Denis Freitas, generated in a process that includes generative AI. The values of the NFTs, sold both to individuals and to companies, follow the estimate of carbon emissions, a calculation defined by lifestyle (for individual purchases) or by the size of the company (for corporate purchases).
In practice, each category of Greenies stipulates the number of trees to be planted and the compensation is proven through a certificate, which is valid for one year. Of the total collected from sales of ecological NFTs, 80% are destined for reforestation.
The project has three partner institutions, namely Iniciativa Verde (an organization that works with tree planting projects), Jundu (a company that works with certifications that guarantee that there was a carbon stock) and Fbrica Ecolgica (consultancy on climate change that responds to by emission calculations).
The operation started selling NFTs to companies and OOH Brasil and Urban Arts were the first to acquire Greenies. According to the company, other negotiations are underway.
“For us, it is essential to be part of this initiative. Our growing expansion across Brazil also requires us to think about how to zero out the carbon we emit on a daily basis. Since 2020, we have been using 100% clean energy in our assets. Now, with 100% compensation of the company’s annual carbon footprint, we take a huge step forward in our continued dedication to the environmental pillar of ESG premises, said Felipe Davis, CEO of OOH Brasil.
