Winter has arrived and, with it, a drama experienced by more than 52,000 people who are homeless in the capital of São Paulo alone, according to data from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) released in April. In addition, millions more citizens find it difficult to keep warm.
Thinking about protecting them and providing comfort on the coldest days, Gazit Brasil’s malls repeat the chain of solidarity to encourage the ‘Campanha do Agasalho’. The action takes place in several points of São Paulo, Guarulhos and Campinas, in the administrator’s undertakings.
For this year, the company has the support of Projeto Orsi, a non-governmental organization in the capital, which for more than a decade has offered social assistance to people in vulnerable situations through the distribution of services, clothing, food and essential items, and the NGO Compaixão Aquece, which collects blankets for donations and operates in halfway houses, nursing homes, hospitals, orphanages and on the streets of Campinas. In addition, the social fund of the Municipality of Guarulhos will also be one of the recipients of the collections.
Last year, the company’s malls collected more than four thousand pieces, a number they intend to surpass this year. For this campaign, donations can also be allocated to pets, since data from the Pet Brasil Institute (IBP) indicate that Brazil has about 185,000 abandoned animals under the guardianship of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and groups of protectors.
“We have an important social role and we managed to mobilize our employees, shopkeepers and especially customers in this support network. We open our doors and invite the public to help us collect clothes, warm clothes, blankets, in short, items that benefit those who most need warmth in these days of low temperature. This is already the sixth edition in which we have united for the Warm Clothing Campaign and, once again, we have the support of all our partners to make a better winter in the lives of those in vulnerable situations”, says Rhuann Destro, general manager of Communication and Corporate Marketing at Gazit Brasil.
The collections will be carried out until the end of the winter, with periodic withdrawals, in order to promptly serve the homeless population. Check below the collection points of each project.
