Humorous, such as Famália Trapo, and music festivals marked the time
The history of Record TV, on air for 70 years, begins with football. It was from the experimental broadcast of a game between Corinthians and Guarani, played at the Pacaembu stadium, in So Paulo (SP), on the morning of September 27, 1953, that channel 7 entered the history of Brazilian television.
With a name inspired by Rdio Record and the English word recording, which means recording, Record was founded by Paulo Machado de Carvalho, and today is part of the Record Group, led by Edir Macedo, founder of the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God.
At the end of its first year of operation, Record had ten live commercials, a volume considered a record at the time. TV Record, 500 kilometers ahead and If you always want to have the best, watch Record! were the first slogans repeated throughout the program.
The brands’ interest would not be long in coming. The programs Pullman Junior, Grandes Espetculos Unio, supported by acar Unio, Grande Teatro Philco 3D, Grande Ginkana Kibon and Gessy 21:30 were soon launched. The success of the poster girls came in tow. There was even a competition between broadcasters to choose Miss Advertising of the Year.
But, in the late 1960s, videotape put an end to live commercials, ending the frisson of commercial muses. In the same decade, Record became home to phenomena that would change Brazil’s music scene, such as the MPB and Jovem Guarda festivals.
The humorous films also made their mark on the era. The episode of Familia Trapo in which Ronald Golias, Carlo Bronco Dinosaur, teaches Pel how to play football is unforgettable. Launched in 1967, the sitcom created by J Soares and Carlos Alberto de Nbrega remained on the air until 1971, perpetuating references to the comedy genre on Brazilian television.
Otello Zeloni (Pepino), Renata Fronzi (Helena), Cidinha Campos (Verinha), Ricardo Corte Real (Scrates) and J Soares (Gordon, the butler) were also part of the cast.
TV Record immortalized the image of presenter Hebe Camargo with Programa Hebe, shown between 1966 and 1973. J Ana Maria Braga gained stardom with Note e anote, shown between 1991 and 2005. To remember the period in which she was in charge of the program, Between 1993 and 1999, Ana Maria recorded an interview at the Record studios, in Barra Funda, West Zone of the capital of São Paulo, on July 25, 2023.
Authorized by TV Globo, the conversation was part of the Special Record TV 70 years, shown on Spectacular Sunday, presented by Srgio Aguiar and Carolina Ferraz, on the 30th of the same month.
The embryo of debate programs comes from Record, a format still seen today. According to the blog Testemunha da histria – Record 70 anos, the precursor of the genre was Mesa Redonda, created to cover the World Cup in Switzerland in 1954. Commentator Lenidas da Silva and reporter Silvio Luiz were part of the team.
