Dear Dona Ana, Dear Professor Samu. This is how the letters begin from former students who were inspired by the most beloved teachers of their childhood and adolescence to pursue the same profession: that of educators. The campaign Teacher, I see myself in you brings together moving and uplifting testimonials from former students to their teachers, and shows how the connection created in the classroom can last a lifetime. The action launched in Teachers’ Month by FTD Educationone of the largest educational solutions companies in the country, aims to honor and value education professionals.
In mini-documentary format, the film shows Literature professor Samuel Veratti reading a letter from former student Roger Vieira, who is now a History professor. In the text, Samuel is moved by the former student’s display of gratitude and admiration.
Throughout my life, I have had the privilege of having several talented and dedicated teachers, but none as special as you. You have always been a guide in life for me. I remember I had no hope for my future, but you were always there. This empathy and connection gave me a safe haven, a friend, a new father. (…) Today I am a History teacher thanks to you, writes former student Roger.
When reading the letter from former student Juliano di Siervo, who also became a teacher, Ana Maria Campanini, Dona Ana de História, also gets emotional.
From our first meeting, I realized that his classes were much more than just facts and dates. They are true time travel. I had no idea how his classes would change my worldview. You showed me that education is a continuous process, which is not limited to books. Her classes instigated my curiosity and thirst for knowledge. (…) I always wanted to be a teacher, but it was you, teacher Dona Ana, who made me sure of that. Your legacy is not just in your classes, but also in every life you touched and guided along the way, says Juliano, who teaches Mathematics.
After reading the letter, teachers and former students meet, hug and get emotional. The recording was made in the theater of Colgio Marista Arquidiocesano, in So Paulo (SP), a historic building dating back almost 90 years in the Vila Mariana neighborhood.
In addition to the mini-documentary, the campaign unfolds into smaller videos, with clippings of conversations between teachers and their former students, talking about the choice of profession and the meaning of the act of teaching. The campaign Teacher, I see myself in you focused on digital media, broadcast on social networks.
Anyone who wants to share their story about inspiring teachers can use the hashtag #profmevejoemvc. The film will also be shown in cinemas in São Paulo (SP), Curitiba (PR) and Salvador (BA) until October 18th.
We have gathered stories of people who chose the profession of educator because, at some point, they were inspired by a teacher. Through letters, we follow personal accounts of how one teacher learned from another, admiring their empathy, their dedication and their ability to make students’ daily lives even better. What the teacher does creates true bonds and resonates in the student’s life forever, and is a legacy that needs to be valued by the entire society, highlights Clayton de Oliveira, Marketing Manager at FTD Educao.
