However, their idyllic vision of a holiday in Australia quickly fades as they face the relentless heat, unglamorous packaged drinks and a lack of Wi-Fi.
As the friends become acquainted with the town’s predominantly male residents, the true threat lurking behind grows in intensity and volatility. The Royal Hotel Expertly explores the darker aspects of the genre and challenges toxic masculinity and social norms in Australia, offering a fresh and nuanced perspective.
Kitty Green, the director, is known for her bold and fearless storytelling vision. The film served as the perfect opening to the Screen Festival, which aims to amplify and celebrate bold voices in the film industry. The opening session was attended by her.
