If you frequently browse social media, you’ve probably come across Z da Manga and the song that bears his name, which has become an internet phenomenon. This has a reason: in the last six months, this was one of the most searched memes on the Brazilian web, with more than 400 thousand searches on search engines from the north to the south of the country!
In this case, the song was originally posted by Mr. Nescau, channel on Youtube Known for putting together remixes of random songs on a funk beat. But, little by little, what was a means of trolls someone (since the phrase sung in a similar way to the classic zap moan) went viral on the web, especially after the streamer Count up love the witchcraft and also start using it.
But, in addition to Z da Manga, other viral content was behind the spikes in online searches across the country in recent months. A recent survey by the Preply platform revealed which of them most aroused people’s interest between March and August this year, and we separated the highlights of thisranking to explain to you. Just come!
Fui ao bogs
Games involving the Portuguese language are among the most loved on social media, especially if the error is glaring and public at the same time! That’s exactly what happened to the owner of a store, who decided to leave a sign on the door of the establishment with the phrase Fui ao bogs (I went to lunch).
Posted for the first time in 2015 on Gramaticando, profile of Facebook, the meme gained new life this year, especially after the South America Memes channel published the photo to its 4 million followers. Since then, many people have published content on the networks defending the author of the phrase and drawing attention to linguistic prejudices.
Passion fruit juice
This is one of those cute memes: filmed by parents in the car, in May, a boy appeared on the Instagram expressing pleasure while drinking passion fruit juice (or murucuj, as he says). In the background he played the song Fell In My Papinho J Eraof Kevin o Chris and MC Caja, where he sang and danced.
The boy’s identity was soon discovered. This is Arthur Pires, 6 years old, who lives in a neighborhood on the outskirts of So Paulo. Published four months ago, the post It already has around 80 million views on the network, which has earned it more than a million followers on the platform!
I didn’t like it, I loved it
In June, the podcast Under Pah welcomed Angolan singer Prncipe Ouro Negro for a conversation with the comedian Diogo Defante, in the painting Rango Brabo. Everything was going well until, during a sweet tasting, the guest launched the phrase that would become a meme: I didn’t like it, I loved it. Just in time, Defante burst into laughter, while Ouro Negro remained eating the candy.
The meme, however, can be explained by another reason: the multitude of influencers Angolans who make Brazilians laugh because of the accent with which they speak Portuguese. Ouro Negro himself, in a very popular song on the networks, pronounces the word monkey as masqueicos, song composed after a video of him looking for animals in a forest went viral. It is worth remembering that the singer is called, in Angola, the King of Kuduro.
Attention pickpockets
So far, this is likely to be the most viral meme in Brazil in 2023. It all started when, in July, a video of an Italian woman warning tourists to protect themselves from pickpockets in Venice gained worldwide attention. To give you an idea, only in post original, on the Cittadini Non Distratti channel, more than 10 million people have already given play no material.
The audio of the woman screaming through the city streets while filming the thieves (she also screams Watch out, pickpockets, the equivalent of beware of pickpockets, in Portuguese) was used to produce a variety of other memes, which was not viewed favorably by the Italian. Amidst the wide dissemination of her video, Monica Poli, the name behind the funny alert, used her social networks to defend herself from the mockery and say that she was only trying to help the unsuspecting.
Fake Natty
One of the funniest channels in Brazil today is, without a doubt, that of nutritionist Rodrigo Ges. A true meme factory, his expression fake natty (pronounced-se fake nri), created to report people who post photos of their toned body on social media but, in fact, use synthetic hormones to achieve the result.
On the Ges channel, the expression is a kind of judgment, and not surprisingly, he does it with a judge’s gavel, hitting the table when the person evaluated is defined as fake natural, as he explains his motivations. They have already entered the sieve of fake natty famous as the presenter Marcos Mion; Hulk, striker from Atltico-MG; and the singer Gusttavo Lima.
L them
It’s no news that memes with regional slang or accents always give people something to talk about. For this reason, one of the most searched for on the internet in 2023 about the Bahian way of talking. The expression L them popular, especially in Salvador (BA), to deny a double-meaning phrase that was said before by someone else. An example of this when someone says I’ll give it my all, and in response, hear from a friend L them.
Although it is already well known in Bahia, it is worth mentioning that the maple grew in the 2022 World Cup, when the name of the tournament mascot (La’eeb) was pronounced in a similar way to the slang. The viralization was such that, at the beginning of this year, singer Tierry took advantage of the fever to compose a song called L them alongside another phenomenon: the singer (and meme!) Manoel Gomes.
Apocalptico
Another meme that plays with Portuguese. At the beginning of the year, the influencer Estevo Ferreira, from Recife (PE), went viral on social media with a map he created on purpose: apocalptico. It’s a particular way of emphasizing that something is controversial, that draws attention, making noise wherever it goes.
Ferreira is also famous online for publishing videos in which he corrects people about his name, when he doesn’t sign randomly. At the end of productions, the Pernambuco native always repeats the entire name as a way of marking who is speaking. In case the name doesn’t sound so unknown out there, because Estevo Ferreira has already been famous since 2020, when he created another classic maple, the kisses of light. Truly, a meme factory!
Preply’s research had as its starting point the rising terms related to the meme theme in the Google Trends tool, analyzing searches carried out between March and August this year on search engines. Afterwards, the research evaluated the total number of searches carried out on each meme in that period to create a ranking based on the digital behavior of Brazilians in the last six months.
