The first São Paulo Women’s Football Cup was officially launched last Wednesday (8). The São Paulo Football Federation (FPF) announced the participating clubs, the competition system and drew the groups. The Copinha brings together 16 teams from different states in Brazil and will be played between December 4th and 17th, 2023.
The Copa São Paulo is one of the most important competitions for grassroots athletes. a showcase, which opens up different opportunities. Players have the chance to show their potential in the presence of scouts from national and international clubs and even independent scouts. Through this contact, athletes are able to migrate to better clubs, gain business support and even professional contracts. Therefore, the launch of the competition, which was previously held only in the male category, for girls, is something remarkable.
Copinha Feminina will count on an investment of around R$3.5 million from the municipal administration to cover operational support and make the championship viable.
The tournament will have games in four stadiums in São Paulo: Canind; Arena Ibrachina; Nicolau Alayon and Rua Javari. There will be four groups with four teams in each. The clubs face each other and whoever finishes first guarantees a place in the semi-final, which will be decided in a single game, just like the grand final.
We knew that something very important was still missing: the Copa So Paulo Feminina. And she is here to stay. I reinforce, once again that the realization of the Copinha for women only happens due to the support of the mayor of São Paulo, Ricardo Nunes, who helped us put another dream of women’s football on paper, said the president of the São Paulo Football Federation, Reinaldo Carneiro.
The participating teams are: Corinthians; Railway; Saints; São Paulo; Minas Brasilia; Real Brasilia; América-MG; Atlético Mineiro; Botafogo; Flamengo; Fluminense; Grmio; International; Botafogo (Paraba); Fortaleza and Vitria.
I’m very happy to be living this very special moment in women’s football. Now we are happy to see the birth of the women’s version of the Copinha, the most prestigious grassroots competition in the world, added player Cris Rozeira, Santos striker.
